Feeding my cat

GenMatria · 06/09/2021 17:57

That moved 2 doors down because she was feeding him.

He wouldnt come home for a couple of years and was scared to come in the house becausr we had a dog that has since been rehomed. (No I wont go into that again on here!!)

Anyways, he has gradually been coming over more and more. Is taking dreamies from me and lets me pick him up. The kids are thrilled that hes venturimg home.
Hes coming over most days now. And yes Im also thrilled because hes a lovely cat.

After years of me begging the woman to stop letting him in her house, stop feeding him etc and stop treating him like he was her cat, I gave up and handed her the vet documents.

Fast forward 4 months after the dog was rehomed and hes coming back more and more.

WIBU to take the cat back that I never wanted to hand over in the first place?! I mean, if he starts coming in and sleeping here, then hes chosen to move back hasnt he?!

Who is he chipped to? You or the neighbour?

GenMatria · 06/09/2021 18:44

Chipped to me

But he's registered under the neighbours at the vet (done under duress I might add!!)

Obviously I don’t know the backstory, but I think you are being very unreasonable

Mamamia7962 · 06/09/2021 18:50

The problem here is that you did hand him over to your neighbour. Did she get the microchip changed over to her address?

YoniHuman · 06/09/2021 18:53

Sorry, but in my eyes if you have her the documents and let her take the cat to the vet to be registered then it's now her cat, regardless of how your own circumstances have changed since. You should not be feeding it. If you want a cat there are plenty more in shelters that need rehoming.

Mamamia7962 · 06/09/2021 18:53

And of course he's going to come to you if you're feeding him dreamies. Cats aren't stupid!

But she pretty much stole the cat off me by feeding it after me asking her not to repeatedly. So IMO I'm just doing to her what she did to me.

you gave her the documents... what did you expect??

thecatneuterer · 06/09/2021 19:10

No she didn't steal the cat off you. She helped him when he found that he couldn't handle living with a dog (did the dog come before or after the cat?). You've given her the documents, she's paying the vet bills, he is now her cat.

She was feeding him and my other cat (who has stayed) long before the dog turned up.

Lets get it out here..if your dog hadn t been rehomed due to reasons you wont share the cat would be happily living elsewhere-- leave the thing alone and accept the reason you handed it over so easily is because you were happier with a dog

Merryoldgoat · 06/09/2021 19:12

If your cat left because it was scared by a dog then YABU, especially as you relinquished ownership.

You could’ve been more forceful at the time.

ShinyMe · 06/09/2021 19:12

I agree, he's her cat. You can't have him back now.

seaandsandcastles · 06/09/2021 19:12

She didn’t steal the cat off you. You have her the documents. So yes, YWBU.

AlexaShutUp · 06/09/2021 19:13

Had you not handed over the documents, I'd think you were being completely reasonable, because technically, it would have always been your cat. However, when you did that, you kind of gave the cat to her. I get that you want to steal it back in the same way as she originally stole it from you, but to be fair, the cat wasn't willing to stay in your house at that point anyway, so I think you were at least partially responsible.

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 06/09/2021 19:16

I get why you are annoyed. You had a cat and under duress, you gave it up.

Unfortunately now its their cat.

Coogee · 06/09/2021 19:21

It’s her cat now. You gave him to her.

MissyMooKins · 06/09/2021 19:22

You gave away your cat and are luring it back? YABU

MissyMooKins · 06/09/2021 19:23

Stop feeding her cat
