To think you shouldn’t be parking lorries in residential streets?

New neighbour round the corner parked a 7.5 tonne lorry on the road outside his house from the moment he moved on last year (he also has a drive with a car on). It affects visibility as it’s on a bend on the road so you can’t see if anything is coming down the road as you have to move on to the other side of the road to go past it. It makes me grumble a bit and I had vague thoughts of reporting it but didn’t as thought his direct neighbours surely would.

A few weeks ago, another lorry appeared so he had two permanently parked there.

A few days ago, another two lorries appeared on the street that leads onto ours. Again completely blocking visibility as your have to go round them to enter our street and you can’t see if anything’s coming down the road on the other lane. We know they are his as well as he was in one of them.

He was also fixing one of the lorries outside his house yesterday and had a ladder halfway blocking the other side of the road and it looks like he’s smashed some glass in the road.

AIBU to think he is utterly taking the piss and will the council make him move them?

It is an offence for a goods vehicle to park illegally or to cause an obstruction, but it is not necessarily illegal to park on the highway in a residential area. Control of parking on local roads is a matter for local traffic authorities

Contact your council.

If he's got 4 of the things parked around the same bit of road I'd definitely contact the council. 1 you can think it's reasonable as it may be a company vehicle. But 4?! He can't be driving all of them himself. I think parking them on a quiet residential road, regularly for long periods of time, is a bit cheeky.

Cheeky bugger, report them, I wouldn't hesitate. That's just dangerous

I'm not sure of the legalities but it doesn't seem like that should be allowed. I'd report it if you can.

He may well need an operator's licence to park multiple vans outside his house. It's usually only a single lorry of the householder who can park there without an operators licence.

He may also need change of use planning permission as he looks to be running a business from home.

Definitely one for the council as they're the ones dealing with both operator's licences and change of use planning permission.

Don't bother with the council the issue is with your regional traffic commissioner they manage the issue around wagons and buses , parking them securely ie not on the street is something you can take up with them.

Agree. My previous neighbour used to have one which he would park outside his house. It hindered visibility when I’d try to pull of my drive but I just accepted it was his work vehicle so got on with it. Four though is ridiculous!
