To ask how long the symptoms of adult hand, foot and mouth last??

So it turns out our lovely toddler has passed hand, foot and mouth disease onto me. She appears to have had no symptoms, I had a fever starting Wed through to Friday which was awful but has thankfully lifted. After days of a sore mouth the ulcers have come through and the hand/feet blisters have appeared. It's driving me insane!! How long will they last now that they're here?!? Any remedies anyone swears by??

Thanks in advance.

I had it when I was a kid in the 80s and again when dd was a baby. Apparently there are different strains so having it once doesn't necessarily protect you. It wasn't too bad for me, main lingering bit was what felt like horrid pins and needles in my fingers for a while. And I was breastfeeding, my nipples were sooooo sore!)

I was very poorly with this for about 10 days.
I caught it from my son after just giving birth to my daughter.
I remember the pain of the mouth ulcers!
Not much to be done just lots of fluid.
My feet peeled for months afterwards
And all my finger nails peeled off 😩

Oh god I had this off my toddler it's the worst. Fever for 2 days, then I ended up with a massive crusty welt about 3 inches diameter on my knickerline, lost 8lbs because I couldn't eat anything with the ulcers in my mouth and my fingers swelled and had really deep blisters in, I could barely bend them. Wouldn't wish it on anyone! All over in about a week though, chin up, OP x

Ah ok. Must have been wrong with my thinking it was new.

I had it recently and it was awful. Started on the Wed feeling crap and run down and started with sores on my bum and belly on the Thur. I felt pretty dreadful under the middle of the following week. The sores in my mouth and throat were the worst. My hands have healed (after peeling) but my feet are still in a mess and covered in dry skin spots and peeling. Throat spray, strong paracetamol and aloe vera juice helped a little. I was also prescribed antibiotics as some of the sores on my face were a real mess. HFM is awful, wouldn’t wish it on anyone!

Hi
I’m just coming to the end of the hell that is hfmd but my hands are still covered in bright red marks. All blisters have dried up.
How long did your hands / feet look a mess for?

@Badgergirl123

Hmmm, i've never had chickenpox, wonder if that's a good or bad thing. This thread is doing literally nothing to reassure me 😂
You can be vaccinated against chickenpox if you aren't immune. Ask the nurse at your GP. Not sure if the GP will do an immunity test for you or not.

I hope your HFM gets better soon.

Is it possible to get HFM in just one foot? I only had a slightly sore throat when DS had it years ago, but I've had horrendously itchy blisters round one ankle and heel this week. I assumed I was bitten by something in multiple places, but now wondering. DS had had some snottiness but no other symptoms.

@SwanShaped

I mean new as in, i don’t remember it from when I was small in the 80s.
I don't remember hearing of it either. It was definitely around in the early 2000s (DNs). Wiki says it was discovered in 1957, perhaps it's just gradually grown in prevalence: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand,_foot,_and_mouth_disease#/search.

I had it a couple of years ago when my son was about 1, he had it first.
I’d never had it as a child, so it was horrendous. Definitely the worst thing I’ve had. I had a really high fever and I was shaking controllably . I was pretty certain I’d have to go into hospital, but luckily I didn’t.
Then I had huge open ulcers down my throat and in my mouth, which made eating anything absolutely unbearable! Even water.
I didn’t get them on my hands and feet as badly. Only a couple of blisters.
My DP had it as a child, so he didn’t get anything as an adult Sad
