Fall in pregnancy

MrsMidgeMaisel · 02/09/2021 19:37

Posting here for traffic, no AIBU.

13 weeks pregnant and I have just slipped getting out of the bath and fallen over. I mainly landed on my right side on my hip and shoulder but I think my belly got a bit of the fall. It was quite a hard fall as I tried really hard to stop myself going down.

I know that if any damage has been done nothing can be done Sad I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else did similar and all was ok, feel like I'm going to be a bag of nerves now, I've been so anxious up until now!

Hope you’ve managed to get in touch with your midwife department - they should get you in for a scan.

With my work I spend time assessing kids with challenging behaviours. The worst was a kick in the back when I was around 10 weeks, like you I was awfully worried! I phoned the nearest hospital, they took me in for a scan straight away. I’m now in my third trimester and everything going well with baby.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 02/09/2021 20:18

At 13 weeks you will be fine OP, the baby is absolutely tiny and surrounded by so much fluid and other squishy bits that it will be shielded from the vast majority of the impact.

If it's any consolation I fell down the stairs at about 18 weeks and was completely fine.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 02/09/2021 20:20

I did go to hospital to get checked out as I was paranoid the baby had stopped moving but they just checked there was a heartbeat.

BabyRace · 02/09/2021 20:21

Get checked out but more for peace of mind rather than anything likely to be wrong. You've got lots of padding round baby.

DrunkenKoala · 02/09/2021 20:28

As others have said, your baby will have lots of cushioning but speak to you midwife if you can and get checked out.

Around 32 weeks I misjudged the bottom step whilst carrying a basket of washing and fell forwards. Part of my bump made contact with the basket. Hospital told me to come in and I was monitored for a couple of hours, everything was fine. My baby is now a fit and healthy nearly 7 yr old. A friend did something similar around 26/28 weeks and her baby is now a fit and healthy 10 yr old.

LBirch02 · 02/09/2021 20:29

That’s the thing OP you’ll be fine - luckily loads of cushioning around the baby

Fifilafrog · 02/09/2021 20:32

Tripped over a brick wall in a dark car park at 6 months. Slashed up my leg, got cellulitis and had to have a months worth of antibiotics. Was incredibly painful couldn't walk in that leg until after the birth) and a huge shock but all was well in the end. Have your midwife check you over if you're concerned.

MrsDSalvatore · 02/09/2021 20:34

I fell down the stairs when I was about 5/6 months pregnant and all was OK, the midwife said they are very cushioned and it would take great force to cause any damage. I would however get checked for your own peace of mind mind

All at 5 months +...

Fell off my bike in front of a bus (which had good brakes), fell of my bike in a muddy field, fell off my bike on the ice, stumbled on the stairs, slipped in a football practice, tripped in a field...

All incubating rugrats fine in the end.

My understanding is the tumble has to be something that causes internal injuries to harm the fetus. Even my best efforts never achieved that.

RiversideAnne · 02/09/2021 20:45

Don’t worry, your bab is well cushioned in there.

jakeyboy1 · 02/09/2021 20:51

Try not to worry. I fell badly at 7 weeks and landed on my elbows. I felt numbed for days by it but all was ok. Contact your midwife x

peppapigfangirl · 02/09/2021 21:00

You'll be absolutely fine. Our bodies are designed to protect our babies. Yours won't even have felt it. I fell whilst out running at a similar stage. All was fine.

TokenGinger · 02/09/2021 21:01

What blood type are you? If you're rhesus negative, you're always advised to go into hospital for an anti-D if you've had a fall.

Shrimpseyelashes · 02/09/2021 21:07

I did a comedy fall in a car park at 16 weeks. Slipped on some ice and both feet went out from underneath me. I flew up into the air and landed flat on my back with a thud. Baby was totally fine (I felt like a right plonker though!)

This is exactly what I came on to say. If you are rhesus negative go to the hospital immediately
MrsMidgeMaisel · 02/09/2021 21:34

Thanks everyone I feel a little more reassured. I am rhesus positive so that doesn't sound like a concern?

You're fine if you're rhesus positive xx
