To drop naps at 18 months?

Our first is really difficult to settle for a nap now. We have tried making it later to tire her out more, but that means she won’t settle at bedtime instead. Is it something other people have done to cut the nap out completely or is this age far too young to do it? I know she might get over tired so just wondering is it reasonable to do! Thank you for any advice in advance!

I'm sure I couldn't get mine to nap past 12 months... She certainly wasn't by 18mo. No probs with anything as far as I recall..

Both mine dropped their naps by 18 months. One still didn't sleep at night and the other continued to sleep right through. I occasionally managed an afternoon nap if we were in the car for a while, but that did disrupt the rest of the days routine.

I wouldn’t worry about what other people do/ have done.

Try it and see how it works.

I think both of mine were earlier than that. I was desperate to keep naps going, I was so jealous of people who had kids who napped for 2 hours!

But when they're done they're done.

BTW, it did mean bedtimes were easy enough, but it didn't mean they slept through unfortunately.

Try it and see. O actually regretted letting my 2 Yr old drop his naps ..I had the same reason that he would only nap later. But the truth is if the kid needs a nap at 2 or 3pm then they will be horribly tired until bedtime

Can't you just move bedtime to later. Or you end up they are in bed early then up at dawn

That’s brilliant thanks so much everyone!!!

@waterrat we did try moving the bedtime later before but the waking time was still the same at half five in the morning😂 as much as I cherish these months I’ll also look forward to the whole having to get them dragged out of bed as teenagers in years to come so we get some lie ins back ha ha. I might give it a try again though and see will it work with maybe a controlled and short later in the day nap if it’s needed!

DS1 stopped napping at 12 months. Slept all night though.
DS2 napped for two hours every afternoon until he was three. Slept all night too. That was fab.
