To have not gone?

I'm a self employed cleaner, have my own very small business just me at the moment doing the work. Weekends and bank holidays I offer one off cleans.

Person booked 3 weeks ago for bank holiday, left no address or telephone number. I messaged on Sunday morning and afternoon for confirmation for going the next day, nothing back. I then messaged again at 8pm and said if I had no response by 10pm I would assume they didn't want me to come. Still no confirmation so I sent the 4th message at just after 10pm to say I would not be attending due to no contact and no details.

Message through at 11.30pm, saying they wanted me to come and that they hadn't looked at their phone the entire day. In the morning I apologised and said that as I'd had no confirmation that I would not be attending (at this point I still have no address).

Was I in the right to not attend? They're now making out that I've let them down and it's really unprofessional of me to do so as we "had made clear plans".

How can you attend with no address?

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 31/08/2021 15:24

You've done nothing wrong and it's totally on them that they DIDN'T make clear plans

JennaPenna · 31/08/2021 15:25

They didn't give you any contact details or address so I have no idea how they think you let them down.
They've spoilt it for themselves

greyspottedgoose · 31/08/2021 15:25

Clear plans would have involved some of the important information 🤣

SnarkyBag · 31/08/2021 15:26

I think it would have been better to have got their details at the time of booking. Waiting until the day before to confirm that doesn’t look particularly professional. However all that said I don’t think you were unreasonable to not go if they didn’t confirm either.

Works both ways
SnarkyBag · 31/08/2021 15:33

Yes it works both ways so I don’t think the person should be moaning that the OP cancelled. But I would expect someone running a business to be a bit more organised and proactive if they want to you know, make money? Just seems a rather wishy washy way to do things IMO 🤷‍♀️

Hankunamatata · 31/08/2021 15:39

Start taking a payment before?

phishy · 31/08/2021 15:48

YANBU. Drop them and block them.

Pumpkinpieee · 31/08/2021 15:51

Thanks all I am incredibly new to this and have only been set up for a very short period of time. Unfortunately I've had a couple of time wasters so hence why I contact the day before. I will be taking their details and a small deposit from now on though.

You sent at least 4 messages asking for further 'essential' information and even when they replied back they didn't acknowledge what you were saying and somehow thought you'd psychopathically know where they live.

100% behind you here, they sound reliable. I'd even be thinking they don't seem genuine. Even if they had told me eventually where they live would they even pay me?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/08/2021 15:54

Sounds fair to make sure you have details and to take a small deposit.
