To think McDonalds are a disgrace with recycing

I was in McDs yesterday and observing the amount of trays filled with paper, cardboard, plastic cups etc. just thrown in the rubbish with no signs for recycling after they eat.

I know other fast food establishments likely are no better but I say McDs as they are the market leader and would easily have the most consumers. Shouldn't they be changing this, in the light of recent reports, or what are they waiting for?

Why single out McDonalds? There's endless companies that have a pretty much identical business model and the threads criticising McDs must outnumber all the others combined 100:1.

Why do we never see similar threads about Domino's, Subway or Greggs?

I genuinely think a lot of people still think Mcdonalds is the same as it was in the 90s and that no matter what they do some people will never stop thinking of them as this evil corporation that makes kids fat, pumps cows full of chemicals and causes endless piles of litter.

It's also a much easier target than places like greggs, Starbucks and dominoes etc as the customer predominantly takes the rubbish out of the store in these establishments. So it's out of sight and not the businesses problem.

Oh dear OP, perhaps it isn't a good idea to jump to conclusions if you don't know anything about the regulations on waste disposal and how they are applied

oh dear another poster just told us it was all for show in McDs.

I don't believe that's true

Ive seen the seperate recycling compartments inside the mcdonalds bins, in 2 of my local mcds, very clearly seperate, ours also have liquid emptying for drinks not finished.

OP, my question to you is, why do you ignore all the posts that bring evidence to go against your views, mcds is working towards a zero landfill policy in the UK along with all the other things highlighted in this post, you saw something inside a mcds, and made the assumption that they were terrible, when they are one of the most environmentally conscious companies out there.

Mcdonalds have several bins for people to separate and recycle their rubbish in

no they don't. It's generally the 1 bin.

Yes, they do. Both McD's near us have the usual choice of recycling bins so customers can separate the plastics, paper, etc., plus the non recyclable bin next to them. The staff who clear up after the lazy customers who don't clear up after themselves usually do a pretty good job of splitting the rubbish into the different bins.

All of the major fast food companies have huge, complex recycling initiatives in place which don’t really address the severity of the climate emergency.

We all need to eat and drink. We don’t need new plates and cups every time we do. And we need to drastically cut down on the meat we eat.

When McDonalds has a plant-based menu and washable/reusable cups and plates, it may begin to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

It varies between restaurants. Some have separate bins, some don't. Probably varies between area, whether or not they're part of a pilot programme or because they're franchised and some franchisees will choose different waste collectors who operate in different ways.
