Foot injury advice

Hi,

I hurt my foot 5 weeks agon I have been resting it/icing it/wearing support and taking ibuprofen. (I spoke to my gp last week and they said to continue doing this)

The issue is its still not better and I start work again on Wednesday (teacher). I don't think I will be able to get to school (I go by public transport) etc 5 days a week. As currently if I have to walk on it 1 day then I NEED to rest it the day after otherwise the pain become way too bad.

The issue if my GP e-consult takes about 4 days to get a phone consultation but I dont think it requires urgent care/a&e.

I have been out today as I needed new work clothes and my foot is really hurting again after about 30 mins of walking.

What should I do?
TiA

What's the injury?

Would it benefit from an inflatable support?

WaterIsBest · 30/08/2021 18:28

I think you need an xray

Jobchangeadvice · 30/08/2021 18:29

I dont know what it is. The GP said repetitive strain injury. But it was over the phone

Minor injuries walk in

Phineyj · 30/08/2021 18:29

Hard to say not knowing how it's injured but a) you're going to need sick leave from work and b) get yourself to a private physio (or possibly a podiatrist) ASAP for an evaluation of what's actually wrong. Then you are in a better position to advise school how long you need to recover. GPs aren't foot experts.

AntiSocialDistancer · 30/08/2021 18:30

Or hop in

Phineyj · 30/08/2021 18:32

All GP or minor injuries will do is refer you on somewhere, probably with a massive waiting list -- at least if you know what's actually wrong you can be hassling the right people.

Jobchangeadvice · 30/08/2021 18:35

There is inly A&e or urgent care near me. Apart from my GP. But the econsuly will take days for a phone call.

I just dont want to waste time at a&e/ urgent care and be told to go home and rest.

I think GP’s are able to refer directly for an X-ray.
If it is broken and not sorted, it will eventually ‘mend’ incorrectly and require remedial treatments or you are stuck in pain / impaired use. (Remedial treatment doesn’t appear to be forthcoming on nhs).
I am speaking from experience (of my area).
Please do contact the GP again - I can’t imagine how they can diagnose this over the phone.
Insist on an X-ray!!!

Phineyj · 30/08/2021 18:55

I'm not going to post again but you have got a potentially job-ending injury here, OP, what with a public transport commute and an active job. Don't mess about, get to an expert!

ThreeLittleDots · 30/08/2021 18:59

An injury that is still debilitating 5 weeks in is not normal and you need someone to physically examine you, if not an x-ray.

If there are no minor injury units near you with an x-ray, then you won't be wasting A&E's time at all.

mrcow · 30/08/2021 19:01

You need an X-ray. It could well be broken and you could be permanently damaging your foot by walking around on it unsupported. (Speaking from experience!).

ThreeLittleDots · 30/08/2021 19:01

How did you hurt it?

Jobchangeadvice · 30/08/2021 19:11

It was hurting a little bit (I dotn know why) and then I stupidly went for a run and its been bad since then.

I'm gonna charge my phone and go to urgent care tonight I think.

You need an xray so they can see exactly what's going on.

I fractured my ankle and got xrayed in A&E. Still didn't feel right a month after so rang GP and she referred me for another xray. It didn't heal right so now I'm waiting to see orthopaedics , but there are no appointments at any of the 5 clinics . Need to start ringing them again this week.

Off to work I hobble next week.

Livingmybestlifenow · 30/08/2021 19:46

Given what you said about the onset, I’d say you need an X-ray to rule out a stress fracture before you pursue any other treatment.

Jobchangeadvice · 30/08/2021 20:44

I've got 1 crutch now from a&e, im going to call the GP tomororw and request an xray referral so I won't be waiting for hours, as my friend is currently looking after my daughter. Hopefully the x-ray shows there is nothing too bad
