Cancelling holiday

Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 16:00

Ds has decided he isn't going ahead with his holiday to Greece in 3 days time. I know I know what on earth is he playing at. Anyway its been up in the air since the day they booked it with some of his mates dropping out etc and then some not having been vaccinated. Anyway ots down to 3 of them and they have lost the enthusiasm for it now. It is questionable now if ds should have gone anyway due to a ear infection and feeling unwell he is on antibiotics etc. Ds had taken out travel insurance which starts on the 2nd the date he is meant to go. Do you think he can get his money back through that because of the ear infection or would insurance only cover for something more serious.

@Tevion28

The insurance starts on date he goes
@Tevion28 when did he take the policy out? At the time he booked, or after?
Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 19:55

It was taken out after

OP posts:
Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 19:56

Its a single trip policy

He indeed does have a ear infection he was seen once in a evening appointment because his own gp had no appointments that gp prescribed a ear spray then today because it wasn't improving a out of hours gp prescribed antibiotics and a nasal spray over the phone.

It hasn't just been his ear either but his sinuses as well and he has had awful headaches and feeling like his head is in a vice and he has had ringing and loss of hearing in the ear.

Beautiful3 · 30/08/2021 20:04

Be should still go, otherwise he ll be letting his 2 mates down. His ear infection will go.

FloFloFloFloFlo · 30/08/2021 20:05

I’d tell him to give the insurance co a call.

This does sound familiar though. Have you posted about this before?

Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 20:07

No haven't posted before also his other 2 mates don't want to go now anyway

Crikey! You've obviously never flown with an ear infection and blocked sinuses!

The pain is immense! I just wanted my head to explode and be done with it.

3 friends all aren't up for it
DS has ear infection and plane will be horrendous
Pain whilst on holiday might be horrendous
No swimming

Yeah I'd read the small print carefully and bail out.

Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 20:08

I don't think swimming and alcohol would be good even if he getting over it anyway.

I too, agree that an ear infection is good cause not to fly. The cabin pressure can cause problems and I have a feeling that most airlines would not take someone with an ear infection. He needs to get a Drs certificate saying he’s unable to fly. I’m sure they’ll give him antibiotics and he then needs to call his insurance before the 2nd telling them he has been deemed unfit to fly.

Scarby9 · 30/08/2021 20:20

I flew with what turned out to be tonsilitis once. The pain was awful.

Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 20:21

Thanks Rugby shall tell him to speak to the gp

OP posts:
Watapalava · 30/08/2021 20:41

If it’s a single trip policy it started the day he booked the insurance and is valid until after the trip

Ear infection or even back ache (hard to prove) will get you a refund

Won’t get his mates tho

Watapalava · 30/08/2021 20:41

Actually it will of all on same booking

popcornfrenzy · 30/08/2021 21:21

I flew once with blocked sinuses and thought my head and face were going to explode. The pain was unbearable and I had to drink to survive the flight - your boy is better off not going

Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 22:09

Ds has seen a doctor once in person and then over the phone and is now on antibiotics and nose spray

OP posts:
Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 22:12

Wata I am confused because him and one mate booked independently from the others and with different company so ds is lead passenger for them both worn he cancels I gather the insurance will just look at his share of payment for refund.

OP posts:
Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 22:12

Should say when not worn

OP posts:
Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 22:14

Can anybody advise on how that will work when its one booking for them both

He’ll need to speak to whoever he’s booked with, was it direct with an airline & hotel, as a package?

Nobody here can tell you for definite, he/you will need to talk to the company he’s paid for the holiday as there won’t be a definitive answer for all holidays.

CommanderBurnham · 30/08/2021 22:23

His cover starts on the date of the policy. Therefore if it's single trip, I doubt he's covered.

Tevion28 · 30/08/2021 22:23

Its a package

All companies will have different rules, I would think you can cancel one flight and keep the other but if they we’re planning on sharing a room his friend might have to pay a single supplement on it if he’s on his own now.
CommanderBurnham · 30/08/2021 22:27

Speak to the travel company. It's basically their cancellation policy that applies.
