Summer holidays have been expensive - new uniform, some new clothes for autumn, trips with the pressure to 'make memories'. Child attends 2 weekly clubs, we're looking at adding a third. Few days spent in holiday club. Soft plays. Fed ducks. Baked. Beach. Walks. Cinema. Bowling. Zoo. Family visits. etc etc but now we have a free day, child is tired today, we're looking at doing a full day again tomorrow. Did a trip yesterday yet still feel guilt that we may not do anything today, does everyone get this?

Nope, I don’t feel bad. Everyone needs chill out days.

MummyDummyNow · 29/08/2021 12:33

You've done loads! A lot more than us. I think it's important for the kids to be at home and entertain themselves, actually play.

Enjoy your day, sounds like you've had a super busy summer.

ThreeLittleDots · 29/08/2021 12:34

No, it's meant to be a summer 'break'. We've done very little except a few walks and trip to Longleat.

thebear1 · 29/08/2021 12:39

Done very little this year as worked the majority of the summer. I do feel guilty but can't do much about it. Children need down time and to even experience bordem. You sound like you have done a lot so nothing to feel guilty about.

This is the thing I can't shake though- writing it down it seems like a lot but we've also had a LOT of screens and time at home too.

Have a movie day with snacks indoors, that will be as memorable as a day out

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/08/2021 12:44

Making memories is a phrase that should be banned.

Honestly look back at what you have fond memories of as a child and so so often it is simple things, something funny that happened in the park, covering an adult in sand, the time you were looking for tadpoles and mother slipped and fell in Blush

Also all these days out often blend into 1and we never really remember them as a day out just a jumble of things we have done

PumpkinPie2016 · 29/08/2021 12:46

You've done loads and absolutely shouldn't feel guilty about doing 'nothing'.

We had a two week holiday at the beginning.

Then a couple of weeks of seeing grandparents/my aunt, going to the park/on walks, did uniform shopping which was combined with a nice lunch out, swimming.

Last week, DS did a week of swimming lessons as an intensive course. So most afternoons we chilled at home as he was tired. Did go out for lunch twice.

They do need some downtime too as term time is pretty exhausting for them to be honest.

Tbf you have done loads but remember..You dont need to go somewhere to make memories..these can also be done at home. My two boys used to love duvet movie night..all bring quilts down n squeeze on couch together with snacks n lights out n watch dvds. Also loved Make your own pizzas .. bake cakes etc or follow a utube cooking video n let them get on with it as much as they can then ooh and ahh over what fab dinner they have made. They also loved a jammy day. I would make a big plate of sarnies n jug of juice n snax in fridge n everyone got to spend the whole day doing what they wanted in the house..playing games .. watching dvds..lego..while i would read my kindle. No housework..no cooking, like everyone was given the day off!! They loved it! Everyone needs chill time..even you!!
