I feel like crying...I hate it. The smoke everywhere, semi detached houses and my asthma is so bad right now.

Why people can be so annoying and so antisocial ffs!

Anyone else feeling the pain??

It’s annoying OP I feel your pain. Recently where I live there’s been more smoke smells than usual and it’s vile.

You can’t keep your windows open but when it’s really hot, really you need to. I’ve not even for asthma but my eyes roll when I start smelling it.

TableFlowerss · 29/08/2021 00:28

got asthma I mean

Nsky · 29/08/2021 00:28

Summer is nearly over, and it’s their home too.
If you feel so strongly, write a note

I feel for you because I have a neighbour obsessed with burning rubbish. He lights up most early evenings and often in mid afternoon. A lot of his smoke smells of plastic, too. He's placed his burner right by the fence between us. I have a progressive lung disease and, quite frankly, I feel his antisocial habit is shortening my life. There are virtually no laws against this, though, which really surprised me when searching for help.
Such selfish behaviour!

purpleme12 · 29/08/2021 00:50

I thought there was a policy about excessive smoke/fire from neighbours
I'm sure I read it and you can report for it

Susannahmoody · 29/08/2021 00:51

Very annoying. I hate firepits.

Same - I’m sure there’s a law about burning stuff, not least because it could realise harmful chemicals and at best it makes life miserable for neighbours. WTF of people need to burn rubbish? Go to the recycling centre.
Gorse · 29/08/2021 00:52

Nsky, it may be their home but it's everybody's air, and it's a bit much when another household's pollutants enter the neighbours' homes, especially if it's every day.

Gorse · 29/08/2021 01:01

Alas! No law against burning rubbish on your own property. There would have to be thick smoke drifting over a road, OR burning stuff on a commercial basis in a residential area. Not even bylaws to limit burning to sunset or anything. I always thought there were, but apparently that was merely down to convention (and some level of community spirit?)

HarrietSchulenberg · 29/08/2021 01:08

I love the smell of a wood fire and have a neighbour who often lights one in the evenings. Mind you, I don't have a lung condition so I get your point. Maybe mention to them that it's making you ill.

purpleme12 · 29/08/2021 01:34

I've found where I read it now

Have you been to speak to them?

Chloemol · 29/08/2021 01:39

Speak to your local authority environmental team. They maybe able to help

Floralnomad · 29/08/2021 02:02

Totally agree , I’ve got small vessel lung disease and asthma and have a neighbour who seems to be permanently attached to either his fire pit or his excessively smoky , very expensive barbecue . Fortunately we have good double glazing so just shut all the windows quickly . It’s not just the summer either as I really suffer when people start lighting their wood burners . I’ve not said anything to the neighbour because obviously they are entitled to use their garden how they wish but I would love to see more legislation around smoke / burners etc in residential areas .

Figmentofmyimagination · 29/08/2021 07:47

Write to your mp. We’ve recently had legislation against indoor wood burners and if fire pits in urban areas become a big ‘thing’ post-covid, you could equally imagine legislation here. It’s basically unnecessary particulates entering the atmosphere, with zero genuine corresponding benefits to anyone - even worse than indoor wood burners, as fire pits serve no practical purpose except to keep the biting insects away and make people feel convivial and in trend.

ThatsAllFolks · 29/08/2021 08:13

Mine has a fire pit and a hot tub pressed right against my fence next to my door. And they are in it all the time. She has the most annoying tinkly hot tub laugh which makes me gnash my teeth as I lie awake waiting for them to stfu

Pottedpalm · 29/08/2021 09:05

We have a fire pit and have learned how to get the best results, via some disasters, sorry neighbours.
We use kiln dried wood, make a really hot fire rather than burning a couple of logs at a time, and position out of any breeze. We never use on a windy evening. I’m the one complaining if it isn’t tight, I hate sitting in smoke and ash floating about is a definite no.
