DH went to a football match with BIL and nephew as he usually does, I asked him not to drink tonight as we have plans tomorrow and DD is teething so she keeps waking up.

He said he wouldn't, he got back and he's drunk, also been in a fight! I tried to speak to him but he just said it's not a big deal and he admitted to fighting but said an away fan tried to start a fight with nephew, which I'm not sure I believe!

AIBU to be pissed off?

Why are you ok with living with a man who gets drunk?

Let alone starts fights when he's pissed.

Get out and find a decent man.

YABU.

@DancesWithTortoises what? You can’t be serious?
Do you think no adult ever gets drunk?

🤣🤣. I'm heading out with the girls this afternoon for a long overdue boozy lunch, really hoping my bags haven't been packed when I eventually rock up at whatever hour.

My DH knows my thoughts on alcohol and certainly wouldn’t ever come back in drunk. Fighting is totally unacceptable in my book and would have been the end for me.

Not drunk enough to start a fight. No one I know has ever done that.

There's having a few drinks and being an ugly drunk. This is he latter.

Why do you think being out of control is acceptable?

ComeonJulia · 28/08/2021 11:38

Why do you think an adult being drunk is unaccpetable?

What a strange question. Of course being out of control is unacceptable.

Drunk enough to start a fight, drunk enough to piss yourself, drunk enough to hit your partner - this is what drunks do. Are you ok with that?

Don't be so ridiculous.

@DancesWithTortoises you have an unhealthy outlook on alcohol!

I like nothing more than a girls night out where we drink too much , dance all night and laugh the evening away. They happen 3 or 4 times a year. Not every night or every week.

I’ve never got into a fight or peed myself or hit anyone when I’ve been drunk.

Live a little, and this comes from the daughter and sister of alcoholics. I know when to stop drinking.

And don’t be so narrow minded and judgemental,

Hekatestorch · 28/08/2021 18:52

Where has op said he was drunk and started a fight? Or peed himself, or hit op?

Because if we are just talking generally, the vast majority of people don't get drunk, start fights, piss themselves or hit their partner.

And actually, plenty of people hit their partners without drink. Starting fights and hitting your partner is something violent people do. Not something drunks do. Alcohol can be involved, but not always. And when it is, its an excuse. If you become violent when you drink and you continue to drink. That's because you are a violent person who likes using alcohol as an excuse.

Drunk, don't care. His hangover to deal with.

Been in a fight? I'd either be extremely worried and sympathetic (if he'd been attacked) or extremely livid and rethinking the relationship (if he'd started it).
