I am paranoid about fire risk.
Do you all leave it on?

Yes, mine’s on right now Smile

Malteser71 · 26/08/2021 23:40

What do they cost to run?

HotPinkTeaSet · 26/08/2021 23:47

I think it’s dangerous. I left mine on all night, thinking it would be fine. I went to the loo just after midnight and it sneaked up behind me and tried to dry air me to death. I managed to fight it off with the toilet brush but ever since I’ve insisted on only using it in the garage.

If you are worried about fire then get some long life battery interlinked smoke and heat alarms for your house and stick them up on your ceilings . A heat alarm in the kitchen, one smoke alarm in your living room and another in the hallway.

That will be much more useful.

HirplesWithHaggis · 27/08/2021 00:48

I leave mine on because I get cheaper electricity after 11pm. Never left the tumbler though.

shesellsseacats · 27/08/2021 00:53

I used to leave the tumble dryer on when I went out or overnight. Then one day smoke started coming out of it! Luckily I was in the room at the time and so I turned it off and the smoke stopped, thankfully. I binned that dryer and never left one on when I'm out or in bed again!

It was an old second hand one but still...

Scattyhattie · 27/08/2021 01:07

Love mine, I tend to put on overnight as takes up too much room when fully open in the day, everything usually dry by morning. Sometimes in winter with a few loads it's on nearly constantly for few days. I'd be more worried about the fridge freezer burning place down.

SausageRollFan · 27/08/2021 01:19

Do these heaters cause condensation? I'm really paranoid about drying washing indoors on an air/the roads in winter as we get condensation and mould

You have a toilet brush?
anon12345678901 · 27/08/2021 06:49

Yes, can be on for ages at a time. Echo the comments about the tumble dryer, never on overnight or when the house is empty.

FuckingFlumps · 27/08/2021 06:54

Like others mine can be on for days at a time, especially in winter. We've never had any issues with mould or condensation.

If I gave it any thought at all logically I'd be more worried about the fridge being left running and causing a fire than the airer.

Making sure you have smoke alarms that work and testing them regularly is the best way to reduce anxiety about fires. Do this and use the airer, the laundry pile is too big to only dry in daylight hours. Grin

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 27/08/2021 06:55

Mine is on 24/7. Gets turned off if away on holiday. Its always working!

gratedbeetroot · 27/08/2021 07:39

We only turn ours off when we go out. Couldn’t be without it. No issues with condensation but the window in the room it’s in it always left open on the locked position as a minimum.

Motnight · 27/08/2021 11:39

Re condensation, we don't have an issue with this but like another Op the airer is next to a window that is slightly open all the time.

MinnieMountain · 27/08/2021 12:21

Yes. It lives on the upstairs landing, so it creates a lovely warm spot when we go to the loo at night too.

hulahooper2 · 27/08/2021 12:29

Yes I leave it on overnight , if there was a fire my smoke alarm would alert us, I wouldn’t leave it , or the tumble dryer on during times I am out

PotteringAlong · 27/08/2021 12:30

Yes, I leave mine on too

Twitchynose · 27/08/2021 17:00

Yep, on overnight and when out for the day. Had it about 9 years now and still no problems
