AIBU to think this was a bloody miracle?

2 weeks ago we went to Butlin's (our last day was nearly 14 days ago).

There was thousands of people all under one roof, squashed up, breathing each other's air, queuing closely, squeezing past one another, going on ride after ride not being cleaned between them, I saw 3 masks the whole holiday, and VERY few hand sanitizers around, it was like a pandemic never happened.

Which is fine really, given the rules have changed.

However given the delta variant, AIBU to think it's a bloody miracle that none of my kids (and us to a lesser extent because we have vaccinated) caught covid?
Not one symptom and and LFT every other day (I work with babies and wanted to be extra cautious that I wasn't going to pass something on) all negative.

I'm genuinely surprised.

Not really. Although lots of people were affected by covid, there were a whole lot more that weren’t (or didn’t suffer enough to realise). I don’t think it counts as a bloody miracle, or anything to be genuinely surprised about.

I'm clearly easily surprised then, because your response has surprised me!

My DH very much reacted like you have though, so perhaps I am wrong.

I mean I clearly must be, because they didn't catch it.

I went to Butlins in early June when masks were still meant to be worn but couldn't see anyone wearing one, absolutely heaving in the big tent! I thought we would have caught it but we had our 2 jabs I am surprised there hasn't been an out break there tho x

I’m not trying to downplay it (although as you said, nobody caught anything so there isn’t anything really to downplay) but I think the madness of covid has made people (understandably) react a little OTT. Yes, there were many many casualties, far too many, but it’s also important to remember there were far, far fewer amount of people that weren’t casualties. We were never in a position where every single person that came into close contact with another would definitely get it and show symptoms, no matter how much media spin was put on it, so that’s why it’s not surprising to me. I also live in an area where people were very much NOT practicing social distancing or mask wearing, so kind of had to deal with that from the start, which may have affected my attitude when it comes to this.
