To think its really difficult to get any job these days

Worked at mcdonalds nearly 2 years. They won't have me back for a reason I don't know. I went to another job but that fell through. They said apply online, even had colleagues offer to put a word in for me, they did, still the same advice. I keep getting rejected online for even a crew member role which I applied for as well as customer care (I did both at different points at mcdonalds). Even the new mcdonalds opening next month keeps rejecting me. I'm putting in the right answers, saying I'm available anytime, I can start now. I can't help but think it is personal- I rarely took sick days, and worked my bum off there! Even kfc won't take me on-apparently I need more experience 🤔 it's hard to get a job these days! It's made me feel awful. There is no feedback. AIBU in thinking it's difficult getting even what's seen as an "easy" job these days?

@HasaDigaEebowai

Appreciate your wording, what I mean is an employer cannot give a bad reference such as ‘I didn’t like blar blar because they complained too much’ or ‘X did not fit our company values of working together

I’m an employment solicitor. This isn’t correct. They can say any of that stuff. However they could be sued if it isn’t true and the former employer suffers loss as a result. In fact they can say whatever they like even if it’s nonsense- they could say “we dismissed Samantha because we found out she was an alien from the planet Mars”. Nothing to prevent them from saying this in a reference. But if it isn’t the reason they dismissed Samantha and it prevents her from getting jobs with companies who don’t like Martians then she can potentially bring a claim.

You can do whatever you like as an employer. It’s just that there might be financial consequences if a claim is brought.

Well of course…. Employers can say whatever the like good/bad/indifferent.

I’m referring to the fact that they won’t because they do not wish to be on the receiving end of a claim.

They frequently do though.

I live in a busy tourist town. Lots in the press about staff shortage
There are zero full time jobs available except for chefs- on any sites/agencies . Loads of 12 /16 hour contracts at minimum wage under 23s preferred. Some fake apprentices full time@ £400 a month as a cleaner or bar staff

@ManifestDestinee

Yes I'm negative because I'm severely anxious and depressed

I'm sorry for you, but then why is your post about it being so difficult to get a job...when what you mean is its hard to get a part time job in a specific places when you don't want to learn anything new or do antyhing you don't like the sound of and when you are severely anxious and depressed?
Do you really think the problem is lack of jobs?

^^This. I think you may need to be a little more flexible.

Job centres are currently a wash with government funding. Job coaches have doubled in ours. They have the ability to spend money to overcome obstacles which are preventing you from getting a job.

Could be something like getting a car fixed so someone can drive to the interview (I appreciate you, specifically do not drive) or help with training....Excel, for example, or many other things.

Please go to see yours. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. It's not like it was 10 years ago or more.

Also, I have heard it said; A B C.
Any job
Better job
Career.

It works.

There are jobs everywhere, it sounds like unfortunately the fact you can only work quite restricted hours is the problem.

Can you do anything apart from fast food places? I personally didn’t find it very difficult to get a new job this year. I got offered three before taking the one I’m in now. I’m now about to move house so have had to do more interviews. Got three rejections over three weeks but have just been offered one. It wasn’t too bad really.

I’m not trying to show off. I find it’s a numbers game really. In order to get those interviews I must have applied for about 60 jobs, so not a very high success rate for interviews. Just keep going and you’ll get there.

You applied for 60 and got interviews, that's a pretty good ratio. I've applied for over 715 jobs in a year.

@gofg

I wouldn't expect a healthy young person to take any sick days in only 2 years of employment tbh.

Oh yeah - we all expect sick people working at McDonalds to soldier on, coughing and spluttering over the food.

What an idiotic statement Angry

That’s bizarre, hasn’t covid taught us that we don’t want sick people at work and school. It really should have shocked employers and schools out of ridiculous absence policies.
Porcupineintherough · 30/08/2021 11:35

@PalmarisLongus jobs for which you have the relevant qualifications or experience?
