To want a roboloo?

Am going to try not to go into too much detail because somebody will inevitably come on here and yell 'poo troll' at me, but I've recently come round to the idea of purchasing a Japanese style toilet a la Kylie Jenner, with washing facilities.

I have IBD, which means I go up to five times in a row in the mornings, and very very short arms, which make the frequent wiping I have to do very difficult. It's always been a bit of a contortion act to wipe, but my weight now plus the more frequent wiping mean I can get quite bad back strain, and my lower back is already shot to shit after looking after small kids all day.

I genuinely think a roboloo would make me feel a lot cleaner and more confident, and eliminate all the back strain. They're about £500, plus I'd have to pay a plumber to install the thing.

I have been too embarrassed to even bring up the idea with DH but maybe I shouldn't be, it's just a lot of money I suppose. I reckon I could save for it and have the money in 3-4 mths though.

Any MNers on here with Kylie Jenner loos? Worth the money?

@Proudboomer

I have a go bidet

It can be installed to any existing toilet in about half an hour by any half decent plumber. We stilled our own and it was really easy and I only have basic diy skills plus it costs a lot less than £500

The music in that vid really freaked out my autistic DS 'ARGH! What IS that! Turn it off!' Grin

Sort of imagine a dumpy TRex and you have my proportions about right. Now imagine that T Rex trying to wipe its own arse.

There's one on Drench for £500 at the moment! I'm tempted too OP. I loved them in Japan but didn't really think about it being an option for home.

Before you get the plumbers in, have you tried a portable bidet?

This one works really well, especially in XL size, plus you can take it on holiday:

Yes, sometimes that type (often called a sitz bath I think) is the best for the job (!), but a bit fiddly with filling it and drying afterwards, and not very discreet.

The Happypo XL spray bottle gives a good strong spray which is confined to where you need it so not much drying needed afterwards.

I've been listening to ads on a podcast for the Hello Tushy "modern bidet attachment", which apparently doesn't require much fitting. I am officially intrigued.

I've been to the roboloo in the Japan Centre in Kensington. It was an amazing experience, though I was a bit scared of the flight deck controls.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/08/2021 18:30

hocusspocuss the music in that bidet ad is very "early 1980s supernatural TV series on at teatime".

@hocusspocussIf you are struggling to maintain your hygiene after toileting then ask your local social services for an occupational therapy assessment. They will be able to assess and recommend equipment to help you. Something as simple as a bottom wiper to extend your reach may be all you need. If you do require something like a toilet that cleans you they may be able to provide this/assess if you meet the criteria for a disabled facilities grant (DFG) which is a means tested grant for adaptations to allow people to remain independent in their own homes.
I definitely agree that talking about the issue with your husband I’d the first step though!
Don’t forget that if you are buying something that is specifically for a disability eg a riser chair, rather than a recliner chair that anyone would benefit from (sorry trying to think of a better example!) then you may not have to pay VAT on it - you can even claim it back on Amazon (although it’s a bit more of a faff, you have to download the form from them as return it iirc, whereas most “disability aids” shops will do it automatically if you check the box) .
Example of bottom wipers (not a shop recommendation as just the first one on google) www.completecareshop.co.uk/bathroom-aids/toileting-aids/bottom-wipers-2

Yes to everything you said! Will have a look at the spray thank you!

Lol at the idea my LA will help me. They won't even help my disabled child.

We looked at these when we had our en-suite re-done, following our visit to Japan. But the cheap ones weren't overly recommended and to have the ToTo brand ones was going to add nearly £2000 for fully fitted to the bill. Some of them were even more. I had to forgo one this time round.

Painismydayjob · 25/08/2021 17:42

@hocusspocuss Sorry to hear that social services won’t help you. They have a legal obligation to assess for and meet identified needs. Sadly they do try to wriggle out of it by setting their threshold of needs very high to save money and waiting lists are long. I used to be assessing the lowest priority OT referrals after 18 months wait…

I mentioned the roboloo last night. DH looked at me like I'd lost it. Not a good start to the campaign.

Well, he's a British male who doesn't have to wash several times a day due to a medical condition. It's not really surprising he doesn't understand the need, as he's not the one cleaning up afterwards.

I'd seriously consider doing a 'well, I'm doing it' or having him come home to find it's been installed.
