£12.50 for a cardigan with a school logo, £4.50 for a house colour PE top (also school logo'd). School coat £20 (I'm ok with that 1 - it's got stormshield).

Boys jumpers are only 8.50. Why am I paying more as she's a girl?

Oh and actually in my last year of secondary school the school changed to n academy, where every year beforehand we were able to wear supermarket uniforms that year we had to buy everything from the uniform supplier - £55 for a blazer and £35 each for the skirts that had the logo on too! Oh and even £8 for logo SOCKS? I have no idea how my mum managed that year.

DingDongThongs · 23/08/2021 19:31

@youngandbroken totally agree. The paint that's meant to be washable isn't. They end up fit for the bin.

Boys stuff does in my experience seem to be better constructed.

Primary school is great. We have navy trousers/skirt and white polo plus a school cardi/jumper. PE kits is plain t shirt /shorts.

School PTA collects in uniform for reselling £1 an item.

I’ve not bought new for years.

Hoolahoophop · 23/08/2021 19:35

@DingDongThongs we are really lucky to have an excellent second hand shop, and to be fair the uniform is good quality so does out last the growth spurts. But so expensive and we are not a private school.

GreyTV · 23/08/2021 19:35

So much more sense now that you can buy generic colour uniforms in the supermarket and only need to buy a school jumper. Don’t get me started on boys versus girls shoes for running around the playground!

Pottedpalm · 23/08/2021 19:39

It’s a good while since I bought uniform for the DTs, but when I did I found M&S boys’ shirts were made of a better quality fabric than the girls’ blouses.

DingDongThongs · 23/08/2021 19:40

@Hoolahoophop I suggested that and the school weren't impressed. Can't beat a decent second-hand school uniform shop.

@TheDrsDocMartens Genuinely I am jealous.. £1 is so fair to a lot of people

@GreyTV I agree it makes so much more sense that you can now buy generic school uniform. Isn't it just for primary school uniform though?

I've already started saving for Secondary school uniform.

@MulanIsChinese

Our school jumpers are £40 each plus a blazer that is £85!! Uniform for two cost £800 and I haven't bought shoes yet!

Private school then. This is neither the time nor place hun.

@DingDongThongs

You'd think it was London with the prices! But no - the Midlands! So not usually renowned for being expensive!

I have twins too and going to need to remortgage when they start school 😢
