To send thank you card to GP?

I have been through a really difficult time over the past 3 years with MH and associated health problems. Things have really started to turn a corner recently and I am all too aware of and grateful for the support my GP has provided during the challenging time. I am confident that were it not for their time, help and input things would be rather different.
I would absolutely love to send a card of thanks to my GP, and some biscuits for the reception staff who made the appointments, phonecalls etc possible.
I feel like people are very quick to voice a complaint and I always like to try and compliment good service where I can. Yes, they were all "just doing their job" but it made a real positive impact on my life that I will always be grateful for.

It would just be a simple thank you card, nothing too gushy or OTT. Would this be OK? Do you think the GP & support staff would like this, or find it odd?

Advice please! Thank you 💕

I think that sounds lovely, I can't imagine not appreciating that, especially as you suggest if it's polite but not gushing and the gift is a nice treat but not awkwardly generous.

Doctors absolutely love thank you cards. I've treasured the few I've received (and scanned them for my portfolio, because they're worth megapoints for annual appraisal).

AperolWhore · 22/08/2021 18:51

Definitely not too much and it would be very well received. I sent some to my midwife with a lovely thank you card which she loved.

People should spread more happiness!

starpatch · 22/08/2021 18:51

I think your plan sounds spot on! Sure it will be appreciated.

ilovesooty · 22/08/2021 18:52

I buy biscuits for my GP practice at Christmas.

My old GP told me that they love thank you cards to put in their portfolios f. or their appraisals.

Emelene · 22/08/2021 18:52

Please do. It will be appreciated. Doctors are also able to include (anonymised) positive feedback in their appraisals so it can help to show they are doing a good job.

ActonSquirrel · 22/08/2021 18:52

Absolutely. I remember every single person person sent me a thank you card in my job and it is not many. It is so appreciated.

SeoultoSeoul · 22/08/2021 18:53

That's lovely but even better is to also write to the practice manager who will collate all feedback for the next CQC inspection.

Spudina · 22/08/2021 18:54

Do it. There’s a lot of negativity around GPs at the present time, so I’m sure it would be appreciated. Also all healthcare workers have to provide feedback to prove we are doing ok, so it would be good for that.

atracurious · 22/08/2021 18:54

That's very thoughtful of you and I'm sure they'd appreciate it Smile

AlwaysLatte · 22/08/2021 18:54

I think that's lovely, but also a glowing online review of the surgery?

Crunchymum · 22/08/2021 18:55

I think it sounds like a lovely gesture. Do it.

Starjammer · 22/08/2021 18:56

I sent one to the receptionist one as she went above and beyond to help me with an urgent referral for something.

She was so grateful - when I was next in the surgery she came over and said it had made her day.

I also sent thank you cards to the midwives at the hospital where I had DD and the surgeons. I think it can really make someone feel good about what they are doing.

Starjammer · 22/08/2021 18:57

And yes we had a lovely nurse who was so good with DD so I wrote an email to the surgery saying how great she was and how lucky they were to have her working there!

FlipFlops4Me · 22/08/2021 18:59

I sent a gratitude card to the GP who sent me for further investigations which lead to the discovery of my cancer. If it were not for her things would have been very different indeed. I noticed, the next time I had cause to go to the surgery, that my card was pinned to her notice board in her room. I didn't say anything to her but ever since I have tried to thank people who have helped me.

2bazookas · 22/08/2021 19:00

I've done it several times. Anybody appreciates being appreciated.

FlipFlops4Me · 22/08/2021 19:00

Tried harder - I do usually thank people, but now I try harder!

Daphnise · 22/08/2021 19:02

It sounds a lovely idea (just to add please no gushing).

Thedogscollar · 22/08/2021 19:05

They would love it OP. When a HCP gets a card it completely makes their day and you remember again why you entered the profession and it gives you such a boost.

Suzi888 · 22/08/2021 19:07

Yes I think it’s a nice thing to doSmile

cheeseislife8 · 22/08/2021 19:09

Absolutely, it'll make their day!

notanothertakeaway · 22/08/2021 19:10

I wrote to my GP surgery. Next time I went, the card was in their notice board (behind reception)

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/08/2021 19:10

I have and would again. Also did it for the midwives when they were involved.

I don’t tip as standard like some do but like to be thank people that go above and beyond.

Redsquirrel5 · 22/08/2021 19:30

Yes, I have. I took him a card ( thanking him) at Christmas and a bottle of wine he was thrilled. I took some cakes for the rest of the staff.
Another year I took him a bag of homemade shortbread and homemade mince pies for the other staff.

icelolly12 · 22/08/2021 19:34

Yes, I work with GPs and they do really appreciate getting thank you cards as like you say the majority of patients don't appreciate them
