What do you do on your day off?

Kids will all be at school in September and for the first time in seven years I'll actually have a day off which will be child free. As a teacher it'd be so easy to do work but I don't want to fall into this trap. So what do you do?

Cleaning/tidying up/food shopping.
Might take the dog on a special walk, or go out for a mooch around the shops and a coffee.
I’d love to join a posh gym and get really fit.

MoiraRose4 · 22/08/2021 13:11

I’m studying a degree, so I tend to study on my day off. I usually get up really early and go for a run, and try to be as productive as possible so i can feel less guilty about being lazy at the weekend. I take the dog for a long walk too.

MyOtherProfile · 22/08/2021 13:13

I do tidying, washing and any family admin jobs but I usually arrange a nice thing too - coffee or lunch or walk with a friend usually.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/08/2021 13:15

Some days.
Nothing. No chores, no work, just chill and either watch some movies (once i had a marathon of disaster movies, I now know what to do if asteroid hurles towards earth, earthquake shatters the planet, fire tornado appears, meat eating bees come😂), play pc game or mindlessly browse.
It's amaizng tobget the brain just to do nothing.
Nothing can be amazing.
Other day I spend all day faffing about my plants. Other day chores. Depends on what I feel like

CoastalSwimmer · 22/08/2021 13:17

Nice dog walk, meet a friend for coffee, clean, food-prep to make working days easier. The time goes so quickly.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/08/2021 13:23

Oh and nap. I forgot nap

Damnyoureyes · 22/08/2021 13:24

Cleaning, laundry, gardening, cooking, tip runs.

drpaddington · 22/08/2021 13:46

I usually do the food shopping and get a load of housework done. Quite often have a nap if I have time, I love a nap! From September I'm aiming to fit in some exercise too!

OverByYer · 22/08/2021 13:51

Exercise. Dog walk. Mooch around the shops. Haircut.

Bellend101 · 22/08/2021 14:09

Cleaning. Listening to music with swear words in and podcasts about murders.

Also a teacher here - I’ve worked part time (3 days per week) for a few years and both my kids have been in full time school during that time.

I do work during some of my time off because it means I don’t have to do any at the weekend and, to some extent at least, the evenings. I make sure I only do the parts of work that I enjoy (the ‘creative’ stuff - making interesting resources, etc.) or, more occasionally, the big stuff that hangs over you otherwise (marking exams, reports, etc.) to get it out of the way. If you are already managing not to use your evenings and weekends, well done! and enjoy your well-earned child-free time! I frequently have a relaxing bath when I get home from school drop-off - knowing no one is in the house, so no one can interrupt/need something/want to join me is amazing! I’m the kind of personality that needs to do nothing for a while to recharge and that was always hard to do as a mum with kids at home (was SAHM until kids went to school and I’ve worked full time for a while too).

BeaLola · 22/08/2021 14:52

Have a lie in , some housework, gardening, take a walk/exercise, binge watch tv series on Netflix or girl film that only I would enjoy, in autum get organised by online Christmas shopping , making cards , something for me eg visit Christmas craft fair , calligraphy session, mini spa day

Notavegan · 22/08/2021 14:55

Walking in the countryside and by the coast. If bad weather I might swim. House jobs especially decluttering. Hair cuts and similar. I very rarely do work but I'm not a teacher.

Nobloat21 · 22/08/2021 15:07

I alternate. Some days off I do all the housework, general washing, bedding, clean bathrooms etc., some days off I focus on a house project like clear out cupboards, some days off I plan a day out doing shopping, appointments, or sometimes I have a complete slob day of watching tv and eating nice food. Especially nice on a wintery day. School days are so short though!!!

jclm · 22/08/2021 15:20

Sounds like you need a chill day after 7 years with no break!!! I literally lie on the bed drinking tea and reading or watching Amazon prime!

Belledan1 · 22/08/2021 15:32

What day you having off? I loved it when I had mondays off as housework was sort of done at the weekend. Sometimes did a big job like windows I use to meet friends or chill. When I had fridays off I wld do housework so done for the weekend.

Amdone123 · 22/08/2021 15:36

I agree with pp ! Sounds like you need a rest. I would think about all the household tasks that need doing and get them done before your day off. Then you're free as yes, the day will go quickly. I used to teach 4 days a week so I would drop ds off, have a quick tidy around, then....long bath, all those self care bits, nice food and read / watch films, whichever you prefer.

Wafflethefuckinwonderdog · 22/08/2021 16:55

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely do need a rest and I know the day will fly by. It's just going to seem so weird with child free time!! I might drop kids off and go for a swim.
