To start planning / buying for Christmas?

Went to Tesco the other day and noticed the tubs of Roses and QS at the front, which only means one thing!

I've made a start on a few small gifts, DH thinks I'm crazy and it's far too early. Please tell me I'm not the only one planning in August? ☃️🎄🎁

There's a global computer chips shortage too so if you want to get anything electronic I'd buy it asap.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/08/2021 11:06

It's not too early! My DC are adults now, but I will still get little things for them throughout the year. I really only buy for them, my DP and a friend, but it's definitely easier to do it as you see things. Same for cards (usually bought in January), snacky things and chocolate 🙂

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/08/2021 11:07

@NameChangeForDis

It makes good financial sense to start prepping now. I pick things up in the sales all year round if I have space to store them.

We start buying Christmas food too as I don't want to be involved with the hoards of people fighting over the last cracker Wink

Crackers are already in the cupboard, ready 😂
stargirl1701 · 22/08/2021 11:07

No. I think about Christmas from 1st Dec and not before.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 22/08/2021 11:13

I've got £1k saved for Christmas but have only bought a few bits and bobs.

Definitely twitching though

Could anyone please link to the Christmas thread?Smile

I have snacks coming in my online shop next weekend (paid for with Nectar points). I'd forgotten crackers though, so need to look!

There's a whole Christmas topic!
popcorndiva · 22/08/2021 11:15

DS turns 3 on 8th September and I am going to go through his gifts and see what can be saved for Xmas. I have started my lists for both DC and started adding to my wish list on Amazon for stocking fillers.

DH is my headache as he doesn't want anything and he also is 40 early Jan, so ideally needs two decent gifts for both.

OiPanda · 22/08/2021 11:15

It's amazing!

popcorndiva · 22/08/2021 11:16

Oh and I am saving all my nectar points for the double up event in November which is when I will get cards, wrapping, and books for DC. Any left over will go on mulled wine mmmm

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 22/08/2021 11:17

I woke up yesterday thinking about Christmas.
I think it is the nights drawing in that does it for me.

I always start early but not usually this early.
I bought the Christmas eve PJs last month as they were such a good deal.

Off to the Christmas board now Grin

SmokeyDevil · 22/08/2021 11:17

Oh yes food for Christmas, I need to start buying that and hiding it in the cupboards upstairs. Problem might be if we end up moving towards the end of the year, having to move all that crap too. I might cry. Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 22/08/2021 11:22

@popcorndiva, if you have a linked card on your Nectar account, you both get your Double Up allowance (I may be teaching grandma to suck eggs here!). So I order DH's £50 online beforehand, then top up using the app for me, if / when I go over £100.

I have great plans this year. I think all £200 is almost all allocated! (A Joy-Con for the Switch and printer ink take up over half!)

KilledByWitches · 22/08/2021 11:36

I'd done everything by the beginning of October last year. Even had a turkey crown in the freezer. Even presents were wrapped and in sacks in the spare room (adult kids so no changes of mind to worry over).

Eyebrows were very much raised in my direction by most of the family, but it was easier to sort it all whilst we had the freedom to do so rather than trying to plan Christmas in another lockdown and they all eventually conceded it wasn't a bad idea. I'm doing the same this year too.

OldTinHat · 22/08/2021 11:39

I started buying a couple of months ago!

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 22/08/2021 11:42

I'm pretty much done my presents, been saving for vouchers too so have a good chunk of money coming in November as well

I start my Christmas shopping in the January sales. Got a few gifts I am super excited about giving this year so I cannot wait.

I cant do the buying chocolate and treats thing early though, buy chocolate early, and I have to buy twice because I have no willpower and am a fat arse

Cuddlyrottweiler · 22/08/2021 11:45

I like to be done by November. November feels too close "Christmas is next month and I still have stuff to do!" I'd also finished DSs nursery by the 20w scan. Although I don't think I can buy for DS early because I don't know what he'll be doing then.

Lanique · 22/08/2021 11:45

Normally by now my present buying is well underway but that's because I like to buy bargains through the year. One year when Jo Malone kept doing freebies I had all my female relatives sorted by now!

This year there seems to have been nothing bargainous at all, and my dds are of an age where toys and 'fun stuff' is of now interest to them. So I have bought nothing.

But in answer to your question op, no it isn't too early!

CGWGWOO · 22/08/2021 12:09

YANBU. I’ve bought most of the ingredients for my Christmas cake which I’m making at the end of this month.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/08/2021 12:12

I made my mincemeat in April as it tastes better matured a bit!

AngryWhompingWillow · 22/08/2021 12:15

I found out years ago that leaving things to the last min ment I could not always get what I wanted. I often ended up spending more as well.
So now I start to keep a look out say from September and if I see something that I know X or y will like I will buy it. I keep an eye out for sales and deals as well because it helps my money go further. This year I will be ordering stuff online from some sites in Oct/Nov.
I won't be buying as many presents this year as last due to a few different reasons. One person I know this year has been very good to me and I plan to spend more on them due to this.
