So I was at friends birthday brunch today. DF had invited quite a few people I don't know at all.
Anyway, one of the women mentioned to me she's not a fan of Biden at all. I said I thought he'd done a pretty good job so far and asked what she wasn't a fan of and she said it was the laws he changed on abortion. Now I'm not up to date american politics at all beyond coronavirus, so said "oh, isn't he just reversing some of the crazy trump policies, what's wrong with that?" She then started talking about how he's making it easier to get late term abortions, it's immoral, how could he etc etc. At this point, given the context of where we were, I just shut the conversation down saying ah it's a tricky subject but I think anything that gives women more reproductive rights is a good thing.
So just to ask - what is Biden actually proposing that's so controversial? Have done a bit of googling but as far as I know, he's not changing any laws that we don't already have as accepted practise in the UK?
What I found a bit upsetting is that this woman had her teen daughter with her (16ish I think), who was passionately nodding along and saying she only agrees with abortion in specific cases but not if a woman accidentally gets pregnant. Like I said, I didn't think it was the time to get into a debate about it but it was just very surprising to me in this day and age.
