To think hand stretched/picked isn’t a selling point?

Got these paratha and they’re individually hand stretched.

Does anyone else find that off putting?

It just reminds me that someone I don’t know has touched my food😫

Are you serious?

DrSbaitso · 21/08/2021 17:04

I'm sure they wore gloves and followed hygiene procedures.

Some people like the idea of a more "authentic" product that hasn't all come off the same line entirely alike.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 21/08/2021 17:04

How do you expect parathas to be made?

Stuckhere2021 · 21/08/2021 17:05

Lol do you seriously think another hand hadn’t touched any of the food you eat!!

XenoBitch · 21/08/2021 17:05

Someone you don't know has touched pretty much all food you buy.

CabbagesGreen · 21/08/2021 17:07

Do you never eat out? How do you make your own food?

Elkey · 21/08/2021 17:07

I think the OP means that it isn't a selling point to highlight that people have touched your food. I agree.

Ahh I see. Maybe machine stretched ones aren't as nice?

I worked in hospitality for years. Fully aware people touch my food.

Highlighting it as a feature doesn’t float my boat

It’s meant to evoke the image of someone lovingly shaping your parathas in a homely setting, perhaps drawing on culinary knowledge that has been passed down the generations. Whereas I think we can be fairly certain they’re coming from an industrial unit and whoever is stretching them is doing so to very precise instructions alongside dozens of other workers going through exactly the same motions! I don’t see much of a distinction between hand- and machine-made here, and, yes, probably only serves to put some people off.

CabbagesGreen · 21/08/2021 17:40

@Sexnotgender yes sorry! I misunderstood. Yes it doesn't seem like much of a feature as it's a bit like "handfinished" cards where someone has had to stick a button repeatedly in the same place on a card for hours.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/08/2021 17:43

Literally ALL your food has been touched.

Don't buy ready made stuff if you don't like it

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 21/08/2021 17:45

I agree it just makes me think of all the dead skin cells that must be in it.

girlmom21 · 21/08/2021 17:46

Hand-picked is ok because I feel like someone will have checked the fruit was ripe/good but hand stretched wouldn't encourage me to buy something

DontAskIDontKnow · 21/08/2021 17:48

I’m always fascinated by the hand-popped popcorn at the tills in Aldi. How does that work?

DrSbaitso · 21/08/2021 17:48

I'm sure they wear gloves.
Somanysocks · 21/08/2021 17:48

Better than wine from grapes crushed lovingly by bare feet Grin

🙄 Gloves?

Oh yes. Just what I was thinking too.

It actually makes me think of manual labour and those who're underprivileged. They're the ones usually doing the handpicking. So it really isn't a selling point to me.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 21/08/2021 17:54

Don’t know about gloves. Have you ever watched pizza chefs in restaurants make the bases? They don’t wear gloves. I love pizza so just have to blank my mind to that aspect.

AlmostSummer21 · 21/08/2021 17:57

Definitely not a selling point for me. I hate strangers touching my food & HATE the way some TV chefs, push & prod the food with their fingers🤮.

I’d like to clarify I’m fully aware people touch pre made food, I’m not an imbecile 🙄

I just don’t think it’s a selling point.

I think you're being a bit silly with this.
How do you think food is made?

That you find it disturbing is disturbing itself.

Do you really think that any produced food is solely made by robots?
Much of it is but much of it needs hands.
McDonalds uses hands, as does chip shop food, takeaways and all of the ready made sandwiches, satay sticks , breakfast baguettes, meat portions ( chops, chicken drumsticks, vegan patties.)

Do you eat at a restaurant?

Oh my days! 🙄

Sexnotgender · 21/08/2021 18:02

I thought this would clearly be obvious it was lighthearted 🙄
