This is pathetic but here we go...

So speaking with my BF on WhatsApp, I asked him what he's up to this evening. He said 'watching football and speaking with my favourite woman in the world (after my Grandma)'.

I don't know why but this comment just seems so weird to me. He usually leaves out the grandma part and they have an amazing bond but they are not close. They haven't seen each other for 4/5 years and haven't spoken since either. I don't know where this came from or why he felt the need to bracket this extra info, its odd.

It would be like me saying, 'speaking with my favourite man in the whole world (after my dad, my grandad, my other grandad, my brother, my son, my cousin and my postman)'.

I know I am being ridiculous but would anyone else be bothered by this also?

Just sounds like his grandmother is in his thoughts tonight, there could be any number of reasons for this.

It is a bit of a weird thing to say. But it's nothing negative on you, just some strange phrasing. I'd be inclined to think no more about it. And maybe suggest he calls his grandma if he hasn't spoken to her in 4yrs.

Yes, sorry but it's your reaction to the comment that seems strange to me. His was just a lightweight, throwaway comment. What level of validation do you require that him saying you're second best to his gran feels weird to you?
