Duvet/bed day with my 3 year old..

Would it be unreasonable to have a duvet/bed day with my little girl tomorrow.. I'm a single, full time working parent. Saturdays we usually spend doing errands, I.e. Weekend food shop etc.. But I did all of that today as I only worked half day.. We have plans on Sunday. Don't feel like doing something for the sake of something.. And have no reason to go out tomorrow.. Was thinking after we get up, shower etc and put fresh pj's on and just watch films and have snacks. Never ever done it before, usually always out doing something.. Feels a bit lazy to waste the day but don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not. She's very loving and still loves lots of cuddles with mummy.. I don't give her much screen time normally as she's at nursery all week and we are usually out at the weekends.
Anyone else have bed/duvet days with your kids? :)

My dc love days like this, we started them about 3 years ago when I split from their dad, who doesn't understand the concept of relaxing, ds was 4 at that stage.

Enjoy it

We've never had shower and changed pjs though but might do bath before bed that night.

It sounds absolutely perfect but I would be worried about keeping a 3year old attention this way. You might find they act up as they are bored.

TimeForTeaAndG · 20/08/2021 22:36

I might have a duvet day on Sunday with my DD actually, we've not done it for ages and it's been a very shit month.

Shazzledazzle9 · 20/08/2021 23:03

Going to try.. If she gets bored or is restless then we'll do something else 😊

Showering and fresh pjs to commence your Duvet Day seems so formal to me! Just get up and lounge about until you inevitably get bored (the fact you feel you need permission indicates you're never going to last the duration Grin) then get showered/dressed and head out for some air if the 3yo gets ratty.

We have spent the week in our PJ much to dh disgust who's working. It's been bliss. Kids piled in bed together. Watching tv. Mini naps

EatAllDay · 20/08/2021 23:32

Sounds great!! You can do a jigsaw or play a game too. If she fancies a stroll later on you could just go along with it .. fly by the seat of your pants!! PJ Day! Yayyyyy!!!

AngryWhompingWillow · 20/08/2021 23:37

@Shazzledazzle9 Awwwww, sounds lovely! Smile

I'm a bit envious of you actually. Mine are grown up and left. What I wouldn't give for a duvet day with a little 3 year old! Grin

Have fun!

Sounds like a lovely plan, with flexibility. I think most 3 Yo's are a bit gritty if they don't get outside for a bit... but like you say, see how it goes, you can always go out if she gets a bit grizzly!

I love the theory but even at 57 I can’t manage a duvet day - I just itch to be out and about or doing something
Wish I’d learnt how to chill at home as a child
Good luck with your 3 year old

I bloody love a duvet day. Me and my dressing gown were/are the stuff of family legend because my parents just could not compute the concept at all 😂 still not sure how they managed to produce me, they're both not great at relaxing!

My two DCs are older (5 and 7) and definitely need a chilled out/duvet day every so often. They are FULL ON and almost need to be forced to slow down because they can't really recognise it in themselves. Recently though they have started to ask if were 'going out anywhere today' and being pleased when the answer is no! They can't do a whole day of films and sofa yet but it's split up with film, bit of tablet time, choose some toys and then fortunately I have a garden big enough for a trampoline to send them out for a huge great energy release still without needing to get properly dressed!

I suspect your 3 year old won't manage the whole day loafing but that's ok. Just go with the flow and absolutely definitely do not feel guilty. We all need time to rest and recharge and especially when we're single mums! And kids' lives are full on, they need quieter days as well. And, frankly, they need to get a bit bored sometimes. Otherwise you're going to end up with a 9 year old with no clue how to entertain themselves and nobody wants that!

So pull on the pjs, bring out the snacks and snuggle down! 3 year olds are lush with relaxed 1:1 time, enjoy!

Love a duvet day with my kids, it’s very rare but as such they love it. Even kids need a break. Go for it!

Had a nice morning so far, we got up a bit later, realised I need a couple of things so just took the pram out and walked to the nearest supermarket.. We're lounging around in our comfies now eating pringles and watching waffle the wonder dog 🤣 I felt guiltily her not having any fresh air at all so glad we went out. Can lounge around now.

They are the best kind of days. We're having a lazy day too (me and my 9, 5 and 3yo). We spend so much time being 'busy' its nice to relax now and then. We will venture out later as they will be stopping my Mums tonight as I have work early tomorrow. Chill days are an important part of mental health, for both kids and adults!
HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 21/08/2021 16:16

We've gone with a lazy afternoon. DD (7 yo) is back at school next week after breaking up on 9th July, she's been at an outdoor pursuits holiday club every week day for the last 5 weeks, which has been fantastic but tiring with all the schlepping there and back and then she's been on the go all day every day doing exciting things like kayaking and climbing.

So today we went to swimming lesson, quick hair cut then home where we have watched telly, read books and we'll be having Chinese food delivered for dinner.

Youseethethingis · 21/08/2021 16:23

Time you enjoy wasting is never wasted time.

Tumbleweed101 · 21/08/2021 16:44

It's lovely to have a guilt free lazy day. Hope you're enjoying it :).
