AIBU to be really disappointed that the only tickets I was successful for in the West Midlands ballot was a couple for the closing ceremony. No swimming, althletics, cricket, gymnastics - nothing at all

I applied for 8 events and got 1 set of gymnastic tickets for a Monday which I think would have been less popular.
Thought I'd get hockey though & didn't get any of my choices.
Might try again in the main ballot.

feesh · 20/08/2021 13:34

We got Rugby 7s, but I was gutted to miss out on the opening ceremony and aquatics.

ReviewingTheSituation · 20/08/2021 13:40

I'd be surprised if anyone who wanted 7s didn't get them when the main ballot comes around - the stadium is big, so there will be a lot of tickets.

Swimming, athletics and gymnastics are always massively oversubscribed, so if you get those, you're very lucky.

Definitely reapply in the main ballot. I'm not sure how many were actually set aside for the WM allocation, but you've got as much chance in the main ballot as anyone else.

I was pleasantly surprised to get diving, and pleased (but not surprised) to get 7s. Missed out on athletics (not surprised) but my parents got 2 sets of athletics (very surprised!).

SummaLuvin · 21/08/2021 10:37

@Hellocatshome yes, you are obligated to accept tickets you get allocated and cannot change your mind/refuse. (if you change your mind before the ballot closes you can withdraw your application and resubmit a new one). However, early next year there will be an official resale site where you can sell tickets you no longer want, I think any remaining tickets not gone through ballot will be sold there too. I imagine they will be capped so you can't sell for a higher price. There is also no guarantee you will be able to sell them, and I would be shocked if they didn't charge some sort of admin fee for this.

You’ve just prompted me to check email and ive got nothing either. Applied for loads and said willing to upgrade (I wasn’t really, but thought it might give better chance IYSWIM). Annoying but like a pp said, at least my bank account isn’t suffering!

Ellmau · 21/08/2021 17:10

Sorry ;(

If it's any consolation, the athletics could be a bit of a damp squib as it's really really soon after the world championships rescheduled from this year when Tokyo got rescheduled to this year.

sparkle17 · 06/11/2021 20:35

Did anyone get tickets in the main ballot. I got got gymnastics. Pleased I didn't get all my tickets I applied for as that would have cost alot.
I'm coming from Scotland. What do you think will be best accomodation wise?

Theforest · 06/11/2021 20:43

I didn't even apply after seeing you could only apply for max 4 for medal athletics evenst. What a con that I couldn't apply for 5. We go to athletics meets a lot as a group of 5, and couldn't get tickets as regular supporters. Poor I thought. I will watch it on telly instead!!

sparkle17 · 06/11/2021 20:48

Oh dear that's a shame. We are a family of 5 as well so feel your pain. I just choose 2 tickets as it will just be me and my 7 year old.

Gtfcovid · 06/11/2021 21:08

I got 1 swimming and 1 diving so I’m pleased. We applied for 2 swimming, 2 diving and 2 gymnastics so I think that’s not bad. Problem is, we’re in Scotland so we need to go down for one event, then home and then back down. I’ve booked a couple of nights for each event in a premier inn about 20 miles away and am hoping to do park and ride into Birmingham. It’s an adventure but it’ll probably end up costing as much as a week abroad. Hoping to do a bit of sightseeing around Birmingham with the extra time. Is the Cadbury factory worth a visit?

enjoyingscience · 06/11/2021 21:11

We applied for loads, but only got one gymnastics session, and I think that’s because we had priority ballot because we have a gym-child.

Gutted not to get to the athletics - we went to the world champs in 2017 and loved it.

Frazzled2207 · 06/11/2021 21:12

I got nothing in the main ballot, applied for lots!

My dad got 4 x £100 seats for the Saturday night athletics. Presumably they’re good seats but that is so much money!

Frazzled2207 · 06/11/2021 21:13

@Gtfcovid
I applied for lots of swimming and diving and got nothing so that sounds great to me !

PermanentTemporary · 06/11/2021 21:17

I have got 2 tickets for one of the big athletics sessions, for an absolutely eye-watering price. It's ds's 18th birthday present and he's a sprinter himself so I just threw sense and caution to the winds. I'm very much looking forward to it but it really is a HELL of a lot of money.

SockQueen · 06/11/2021 21:20

We've got tickets for one gymnastics session (I think the men's all-around) and one swimming session. We entered the ballot for cheap seats for loads of things but only got these ones. Still cheaper than the Olympics though - we paid £95 each for rowing tickets on Super Saturday and it was worth every penny.

Knackerelli · 06/11/2021 21:47

I got netball tickets in the local ballot and athletics tickets in the main ballot. Both the very cheapest as that’s all I can afford so probably won’t be able to see anything!

As pp have said there is a website to buy unwanted tickets closer to the time. I fancied tickets to the closing ceremony but there’s no way I could have afforded it 😕

notyourmummy · 06/11/2021 21:52

I've got tickets for basketball/wheelchair basketball. Out of the ones I applied for they were the ones I wanted least, but the children will enjoy it and at least they'll be able to say they went to the Commonwealth Games I guess. Got an afternoon ticket so planning to drive there and back (East Yorkshire) on the day.

sparkle17 · 06/11/2021 23:11

Has anyone got any tips of where to stay?
