To expect my money back for this nursery session?

My son’s nursery is closing because of a shortage of staff due to covid isolation, we’ve already paid for his sessions during the summer holidays, where do we stand with this? I guess we won’t get the money back. I know it’s not their fault but I feel a bit gutted really , as obviously it’s not cheap and we don’t have a lot of expendable income.

My nursery would refund

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 19/08/2021 09:25

The government is very clear on this. Nursery cannot charge for services they are unable to offer. You should be getting a refund.

We had similar recently when they closed due to a child being tested positive. We were offered the option to rebook the sessions on other days in the month. I didn't need any more that month do asked if I could take the value of the sessions as credit from my next bill and they were happy with that. They would have refunded if there was no other option bit o understand them trying to retain the bookings too as everyone is trying to keep afloat. I'd ask them what they can offer.

My nursery which is part of a big chain refunded in the same situation. Admittedly it hasnt come through yet but they will
If it's your child that self isolates they wont

stackhead · 19/08/2021 09:29

Nursery will refund. Ours just adds it as credit onto the next bill.

MiniMaxi · 19/08/2021 09:31

Ours said they will refund for a staff shortage but that wasn’t due to Covid. Not sure of the rules there.

billiebeeme · 19/08/2021 09:33

We had a case in my little ones class she wasn't allowed back until after isolation period. We were not charged during this time.

They have closed previously for bad weather, usually snow in the winter and we don't get a refund for that 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you shouldn't be charged.

Justgettingbye · 19/08/2021 09:46

My impression was if the setting closed they refund and if you don't send child in when they're open no refund

Marni83 · 19/08/2021 09:47

Of course they will refund

20viona · 19/08/2021 09:48

This happened to us recently and Nursery refunded all the money as they said the service couldn't be provided therefore they wouldn't expect us to pay.

Brokenrecord3006 · 19/08/2021 09:48

Our preschool has just refunded me for sessions when they closed due to staff isolating. Took a bit of chasing but I don't think they have grounds to withhold it.

girlmom21 · 19/08/2021 09:53

They'll have had terms and conditions when you booked.

Ours aren't charging for Covid-related closures.
A few weeks ago one of the rooms had to close and although the rest of the nursery was open they said they wouldn't charge for any child whose parents weren't comfortable sending them because of the closure in the other room.

Thefaceofboe · 19/08/2021 10:19

Only your nursery can tell you that, not mumsnet. Each setting is different but most likely they will refund you or give you credit.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 19/08/2021 10:22

Have you not asked them that?
