To not want these baby clothes?

My son is 8 months old now, he's MILs first grandchild so she spoils him a bit which is fine.

DS has recently gone into 6-9 and MIL has given us a lot of baby clothes that DP’s brother wore, which is very generous of her, but the issue is his brother was born in April so when he wore these clothes it was winter so DS won't wear them

AIBU to not want these clothes?

Take them to be polite, take a couple of pictures on a colder day to send to her, put them away for the next baby in the family, your/her friendship group.

It’s very nearly autumn I can feel the days getting cooler, are you sure you can’t use them? Or is it that the clothes are awful and you don’t want to use them?

LagneyandCasey · 17/08/2021 22:18

They might come in useful. It's not exactly warm at the moment. As pp said, If you can store them they might be good for future babies or friends babies.

RoseMartha · 17/08/2021 22:26

Take them and say thank you. As @Hopdathelf said take a couple of pics to send her with him in an outfit. You might not use them all but pick out your favourite items for your dc to wear.

If she doesnt want them back you could always pass them on to someone who needs them.

you said these clothes were last worn by DP's brother, the baby's uncle? so does that mean they are 10 or 20 yrs old?

agree with the above, keep them for a bit & maybe get a photo of the best outfit. The weather is getting colder now so they might be useful in a couple of months.

cadburyegg · 17/08/2021 22:35

Take them and say thank you. In a couple of months it’ll be colder. If not sooner, I was wearing a jumper and coat today 😐

Mammyloveswine · 17/08/2021 23:08

How old are the clothes?!

NewlyGranny · 17/08/2021 23:12

Ask her at the outset if she is going to want them back! If they're precious and she'll be distressed to lose them, do what Hopdathelf suggests and take a few nice photos, then fold them away carefully.

Don't let her overwhelm you with stuff; next time say they're so precious she should keep them safe at home.
