Full time v Part time work

I recently reduced my working hours from 4 full days to 4 half days due to my health.
Since reducing my hours I have found that my colleagues have been quite bitter towards me leaving early, moaning that they will be short staffed in the afternoon due to me leaving. Anyone would think I was getting paid for a full day the way they make me feel guilty for leaving.
Does this happen in other workplaces? It feels like there is such a divide between full and part time workers.

I definitely noticed more comments about me ‘never being in’ when I went pt from my team members, not management.

I just brushed it off with ‘there’s a shame more for you to do then’ and a nice big smile 😃 and then go on to talk about what I was doing with the day/afternoon off work.

It’s no different to them talking about their weekend.

Did your workplace let you cut your hours in half but then not recruit anyone to cover? If so then - while it's not your fault at all, it's all on your employer - I have some sympathy for your colleagues.

They transferred someone from another department but she has transferred on the hours she did in that department which is mornings like me.

To be honest I have found working with part timers is always a nightmare. Even if they job share and have a decent handover system it always causes problems that somehow are everyone else’s to deal with.

Try and be thick skinned, get your health sorted, and then consider your career again.

movingadviceneeded · 17/08/2021 19:24

I agree with a PP about a thick skin; it's not your problem if it's causing issues. I work 4 days & get paid for 4 days. I work well over my hours but on the day I am out of the office, if I hear any grumbles I remind my colleagues that I do not get paid for that day!!

Kitkat151 · 17/08/2021 19:30

Where I work there is a good mix of full and part time....in fact the part timers are the whingers! Cos they say they have more to fit into their hours than the full timers ( this is also true to a fair degree) .... full...part....it doesn’t bother me what anyone works.... the only one whoever pissed me off, was a partimer who walked out of the office at 1230pm every Wednesday saying ‘Have a good weekend everyone’ 🙄

MintyCedric · 17/08/2021 19:32

Doesn't sound like your employer has handled it well but that's not your fault.

Also are they quite good at fair treatment overall? Is it possible that other staff members might have asked for more flexibility and it's been refused and in causing resentment?

Again not your problem, hopefully once they get into a routine it'll wear off.

AllAroundTheWorldYeah · 17/08/2021 19:34

They're just jealous because they'd love to go part time if they could afford it or whatever

Hardbackwriter · 17/08/2021 19:46

I think it sounds like they have a legitimate complaint but you're completely the wrong person to blame for it or to moan to about it; if you possibly can point this out politely then I would.

Mary46 · 17/08/2021 19:47

Just ignore it op. I used get comments temping and blunt too and oh wouldnt have luxury to not have work every week!! But not nice

Fairunibutterfly · 17/08/2021 19:52

Yeah, when I went pt just some people called me a part-timer. However my work were good and hired someone else for cover.

People don’t realise that actually you’re not getting paid a full time salary. Also I found I was doing and still am much more than pt. People don’t factor that in.

Don’t let them bother you, they’ll soon stop.

I often had to stand up for p/t colleagues when they got the "banter " about finishing their shift, or on a Wednesday when Thursday and Friday are not their working day, really pissed my p/t colleagues off as it ceases to be even mildly amusing after 2 days.
