Meeting some friends for a longish (few hours) walk in the Cotswolds (probably around Burford if it makes a difference)

AIBU to wear trainers instead of walking boots? The only walking boots I have are heavy Timberland boots which give me blisters.

It's forecast to be 25c and sunny

Haven't been to the Cotswolds before so not sure what the terrain is like

Timberlands are not walking boots. Wear your trainers.

It's muddy out there, trainers probably fine if waterproof and grippy.

Not done any walking in that area so can’t advise on terrain, but I use the compeed blister plasters as prevention. As amazing as they are for already formed blisters, I prefer not to let them form at all! Just make sure to put them on clean skin otherwise they don’t stick too well (I sometimes tape them down too to make them extra secure).

I wear walking shoes and have found them much better than full-on walking boots unless I know I’m going to need to support my ankles (e.g. downhill on scree). The difference between trainers and walking shoes is a) how waterproof they are (having cold wet feet all day is a miserable thing and the wet will make your socks rub like hell) and b) how warm they are (see point a) re having cold feet all day).

Mine are like this, so like heavyweight trainers: www.peterstorm.com/046012/046012-ps-w-arnside

Think I got them in a sale for about half that price.

I run up fells in trainers. You'll be fine in the Cotswolds.

littlefireseverywhere · 17/08/2021 14:21

I live locally, trainers round here will be fine.

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/08/2021 14:23

Is this serious?! I went for a 2 hour walk with dh on Sunday along a deep pebble beach then up a big hill. I wore a pair of slip on canvas flats from tesco that cost £6. All fine.

Regularly do 3 hour Cotswolds walks in trainers - they are by no means all terrain type. Pumas, MK, CK, ugg, Adidas- just like I'd wear regularly with plenty of support/thickish soles.
I do choose material depending on if it's likely to be muddy so that I can clean them easily
