At first it was for a back ache and now its for a cold - I’m not taking maximum dose every day, I try to get on with it but I take at least 1 dose. I’m worried I’m wrecking my liver/kidney. Reassurance please !

I have been on max dose of both paracetamol and another pain killer for at least 10 yeaŕs. I get bloods checked every do often.
I have no choice but to take them.
So unless you are of a very fine build or have other underlying condition you should be ok.

I find Anadin Extra works better for things like headaches.

MyOtherProfile · 17/08/2021 07:40

My question was because if I just have a cold I take lemon and honey. I would only take lemsip or something with paracetamol if I actually had a headache with it. Op didn't say they had any pains, just a cold.

StripyHorse · 17/08/2021 07:41

I know you are probably expecting this... but paracetamol dosing aside, it sounds like you should get a covid test. Delta often has symptoms more like a cold (achy, snuffly etc).

Phyllis321 · 17/08/2021 07:41

I took it almost daily when pregnant for SPD and my doctor was fine with it, in fact recommended it. Just stay within guidelines.

StripyHorse · 17/08/2021 07:42

And a PCR test.

LFTs aren't as sensitive so shouldn't be used to rule out covid.

Op didn't say they had any pains, just a cold.

Most people just say they have a cold rather than listing all their symptoms. When I say I have a cold it means I have a sore throat and sinuses/head - paracetamol is needed for those.

NashvilleQueen · 17/08/2021 07:56

Don't use paracetamol for a cold?! What a ridiculous comment. Every one of the cold medicines and potions on the market has some level of paracetamol in it.

You won't become addicted to paracetamol on the recommended dose and for genuine medical conditions so just go ahead and continue to take them. Codeine is another story altogether and are highly addictive after a short time.

Theluggage15 · 17/08/2021 08:12

Eh? Most colds consist of headaches, sore throat etc rather than just a runny nose. A cold causes a myriad of symptoms most of which will be helped by paracetamol.

That was supposed to say achiness, not Chinese, my apologies.

This is the best autocorrect I have ever seen.

Moonlight1972 · 17/08/2021 15:59

I tested positive to covid :(

I agree with having a Chinese too Grin. Feed a cold, starve a fever.

DogFoodPie · 17/08/2021 16:05

Oh just saw you have Covid, hope you are OK and it's just a mild case.

Sorry you have covid, hope you feel better soon.

Absolutely fine to take paracetamol within the dose limits long term. Many, many people do.
