Shameless posting for traffic.
I’m buying a present for someone moving overseas so can’t be too large/bulky, so was thinking a presentation pack of stamps (like this: shop.royalmail.com/collectibles-and-gifts/presentation-packs-and-sets/wild-coasts-presentation-pack). They are available online but won’t arrive in time. Can anyone suggest alternative, readily available gifts?? Doesn’t have to be stamp related but something vaguely UK related and easily packable (small and lightweight). Tia

Are they a stamp collector? If not then that's a bit of an odd gift! I would get them something like a good book or perhaps something related to a hobby.

Maybe a vintage railway travel poster or postcards?

You actually might do better going via ebay or etsy as you can talk to the seller and pay more for special delivery. This slightly random poster is listed as for delivery this Friday.

No not a stamp collector afaik. Stamps ticked the boxes of being small and unique to UK. Book too heavy - I’d be annoyed if someone gave me one to carry when I’m moving all my stuff abroad - and it’s really difficult to choose a book someone else will like.

Thanks yeh postcard another option but maybe looks a bit cheap? Poster difficult to pack without damaging it or taking up a lot of space with a tube.

Do you know where they are going to? Voucher for a local shop or restaurant in their new place

Tea towel of their current town - light & useful

Memory stick of photos of you both, friends, her house, town, local landmarks

Earrings of local stone

If it has to be a collectible- British coins - one of the special sets?

jetadore · 16/08/2021 23:28

Coins a good idea, similar to but thought stamps are a bit more artistic. The recipient isn’t British and going back ‘home’. I know them from work not best mates but a good friend. I’m a bit wary of jewellery as it’s so down to personal tastes.

What about some nice tea? Not too big...a posh blend maybe? A nice mug?

CaptainMerica · 17/08/2021 09:59

I love @jackstini 's tea towel idea. Maybe with a voucher for a meal out at the place they are moving to, if you wanted to spend a bit more.

I think it is unlikely that you are going to pick something they are going to treasure, they will have their own sentimental reminders.

Zarene · 17/08/2021 10:04

I like PP's idea of something that will be useful for their new home, like a voucher.

If I was packing up to move country the last thing I'd want would be random tat (sorry!) like stamps or coins.

Teatowel from your local town (or somewhere else meaningful) and a packet of good teabags.
