Or is this ivf advert a bit too targeted or am I being sensitive

I've just hit 30, Facebook knows this.

All of a sudden my adverts have a distinct fertility feel to them. However this one is a new low. A giant clock and telling me that my fertility is declining? Is it just me or is it a bit too much to be randomly placed on random peoples Facebook feeds?

Jokes on them to be honest as I'm infertile! I realise they are targeted usually due to interests and have deliberately avoided such content, and interacting with things likely to bring up ads.

I've been slowly go through and saying not applicable to me and sorting out my preference. Ive now chosen the see fewer parenting ads as there isn't a see zero option.

This just feels like a step too far.

@Saoirse82 FET isn’t the same as egg freezing, though. Freezing just eggs is much, much less successful than freezing whole embryos ( resulting in a frozen transfer).

Single women are being conned when they’re told to freeze eggs. They should be told to fertilise them.

My targeted ads got completely confused when it worked out I was 35. I was getting ads for contraceptives, IVF treatment and stuff about the menopause all at the same time.

Sometimes it's personalised based on your earlier searches. Sometimes the algorithms are more basic.

Well i think its a good idea for single women who want motherhood, 35 ish
But i was at a bus stop the other day, Dublin 18, and i saw an ad for egg freezing. I got a bit of a jolt tbh. Im 51 with teenagers but i thought, wow, society is not structured in a way that supports women.

Once upin a time i was against women having dc too young but now i think have dc young then have no more and then live your life.

The way society is set up now, women need to work so hard to reach a position where they can have a baby and then it might be a last minute opportunity or it might be that motherhood leads to a lower status of life, financially. Its tough being a woman.

The algorithms think i must want a cat. And must want to spend a fortune on my cat. Im 51, single, i am terrified of cats.

Actually talking about stuff in real life in earshot of your phone links ads as well. DS was talking about a pair of trainers he wanted and showed me them on his phone, next thing I'm getting ads for them on my own phone.
I turned microphone permissions off on everything where it's not nerded. Made a difference

I agree the difference between frozen eggs and embryos needs to be made very clear.

Lots of ££££ spent on IVF here.

About 90% plus of frozen eggs should survive the thaw but there is zero guarantee that any will become embryos suitable for transfer or freezing.

I know that's not helpful as many women who freeze eggs do so in the hope that they'll meet a man to fertilise them.

And even if the eggs fertilise and become embryos they might not result in a pregnancy.

I suppose if I were young and had the money as disposable income I'd consider it but the chances of eventual success need to be made clear.

OP it is crap, I hate getting similar adverts.

@Antsinmypantsneedtodance

Have you ever discussed fertility on whatsapp on on fb messenger? All linked.
WhatsApp messenger is encrypted end to end, there's no way the adverts came from WhatsApp conversations
00100001 · 16/08/2021 18:10

Facebook, sure, but not WhatsApp

Seems that actually you might have linked accounts or similar.

Phones aren't listening to us passively.

VienneseWhirligig · 16/08/2021 18:26

If we do have linked accounts I would be surprised - he's an adult and took out his own phone contract. It's all a bit weird!

It probably is an age thing. When I advertise on Facebook I select my audience. You can choose what age range and what sex you want to target. It would make most sense for them to target women in the 30-40 or whatever age group.

You can select people interested in x,y,z too but don't have to so you can target purely on age.

baileys6904 · 16/08/2021 18:33

If you have messenger, when you gave the permissions to download, you gave it access to your microphone etc. Whta it doesn't tell you is that's the case even if youre not using messenger at the time, so have phone conversations, what's app calls etc. It then uses this for targeted ads.

Hope you're ok op

That's true! I forgot about the age grouping selection.
