I have bought a couch from DFS

Ok I know i will get abuse for this but I've had their couches in the past without any bother. Don't actually need a new one, just fancied a change. Anyway, i want to ask, can you see the difference between these two couches www.dfs.co.uk/pongo/pgo1zcpza - this is the one I have bought which was £799 when I bought it and this is a very similar one www.dfs.co.uk/orka/okr1zcpza?skuId=4856175&&origin=search - not a lot in it is there?

I have the Joules Patterdale sofa in navy. I really like it, but it was delivered damaged in April and I’m still waiting for it to be fixed. Dfs came to assess the damage in May, then came to fix it in July but they had ordered the wrong part so I’m still bloody waiting! Would never buy from them again because of the poor service.

@perfectasalways

spongedod please accept my apologies for causing offence by using the wrong word. I didn't realise people could be so sensitive about a post about a sofa.

I'm not sensitive about a post about a sofa. I'm annoyed at the flippant use of the word 'abuse'

perfectasalways · 15/08/2021 20:37

spongedod DFS do not have a very good reputation on her - I was expecting to be told that I had wasted my money, the sofa was horrible and would collapse within a fortnight. People cannot physically abuse you over the internet, it was just a turn of phrase but I'm sorry if it has hit a raw nerve with you, there was no offence meant.

@spongedod are you serious? Surely you've heard the expression 'open to abuse'? Words can have more than one context.
@spongedod are you serious? Surely you've heard the expression 'open to abuse'? Words can have more than one context.
Yes I am serious.

The expression 'open to abuse' was not used so I can't quite see your point here at all.

OP said 'I know I will get abuse'.

Jesus. People can and do abuse others on the internet. My point was your turn of phrase is inappropriate and should be changed.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/08/2021 20:55

I've got one, it's five years old and nothing wrong with it.

AppleKatie · 15/08/2021 20:57

so back to the sofa’s.

I like it OP, although I would want my sofa to last longer than 4 years. The ones we’ve currently got are 20 years old and on their last legs (second hand to us from a family member). The one before that wasn’t DFS but similar company, it ‘only’ did 6 years and I was disappointed with that.

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 15/08/2021 21:22

Great find.

Habber · 15/08/2021 21:40

I have a sofa from DFS and it’s fine 😂

Habber · 15/08/2021 21:41

I just clicked on the link. I have the same one. The chaise bit slides off you need to keep turning the cushions over

Crimeismymiddlename · 15/08/2021 22:12

I have a DFS sofa that is going on seven years old and does not look it at all. I have also noticed, due to the fact that I sell pre owned sofas that DFS ones hold up well, and are generally as well, or better made that the more expensive brands.

notacooldad · 15/08/2021 22:18

We are thinking of changing our DFS sofa. We've had it 15 years and I've been hoping it would have died 5 years ago. There's still life in it! We had our previous DFS one for 11 years.

DotBall · 15/08/2021 22:21

We have a leather DFS sofa with electric recliners. It’s been going for SO long that I’ve got to the stage that I wish the bugger WOULD fall apart so we can justify a new one, but it’s still brilliantly comfortable, squishy but not saggy. We paid £1200 for a long sofa and recliner chair and they’ve been worth every penny. Had it for 14 years so far…

worriedatthemoment · 15/08/2021 23:10

I had a dfs sofa bought about 12 years ago and was great but it got damp from a wall in old house and we had to get rid , bought 2 cheap harveys one to tide us over and not very comfy
Keep seeing sofaland or something like that on facebook and sofas look nice and cheap like £600-800 but I know no one in real life who has one so not sure to risk
Friends just bought dfs sofa and say it looks nice but they regret as not comfortable

Crazydogmumma · 15/08/2021 23:21

I have the Joules patterdale sofas in Navy and they are so comfortable. I upgraded to the more expensive cushions (I think they have foam inside) and this should stop the cushions from sagging. I think they look and feel luxurious and I love them.

Wheresmrpenguin · 16/08/2021 00:28

If you can, make sure you get the thicker/stronger filling. I've got a dfs sofa pretty similar to those and it's awful, gone so flat, the corner cushions fall off so we end up sitting between the gaps. Only had it 2.5 years and I want rid already, not again.
I wish at least we'd gotten the stronger filling like they advised.

perfectasalways · 17/08/2021 20:27

Wheresmrpenguin friend had this with a leather sofa - they came and refilled without any issue. I am paying it up so i assume they would be keen to sort out any issues. Have bought from other places before but not a patch on DFS. By the way I don't need a new sofa every 4 to 5 years - I just want one!

Haha how strange! I ordered the pongo but it didn’t fit in my house so I re ordered and got the orka. We actually prefer how the orka looks we think the arm rests and the lower strip of the sofa look nicer than the pongo... although they are incredibly similar!

gunnersgold · 17/08/2021 20:36

Our dfs sofas are fab , never worn out ! If you are very heavy or heavy handed yiou will break any sofa. Ours are very well made !

Thewayshetalks · 17/08/2021 20:42

My DFS sofa is awful, only had it 2 years and after a year was flat as a pancake, the filling they use is such poor quality, went in to complain at the store and they was horrible and unhelpful as was their customer service phone staff, eventually got them to refill cushions, but I had to pay. I now have one on order from sofology. Would never ever use DFS again, mine was over 2k and they couldn’t of give a shit how much I paid, their service is shocking

Jubaju · 17/08/2021 20:55

Pongo was 699 recently, then the orka came in as the discounted one. Only tiny differences- it’s had about 5 different names. No one would pay full price.

All about what it feels to sit on.

Very similar looking couches can feel very different to use.

SeoultoSeoul · 17/08/2021 21:23

I bought a DFS sofa very similar to your £799 one in the pink colour during lockdown. It was called electron then.
We absolutely love it. I have washed the cushions on a 40 degree and they came out perfect.
We are a family of 5 with 3 grown up kids, a dog and a cat. The sofa is in the kitchen so it is taking a heavy battering, but a year in it looks brand new.

ellemenopee · 18/08/2021 07:40

I love my DFS sofa. We did get the foam upgrade to the seats and always would. Can't be doing with plumping seat cushions.

Ours is nearly six years old and good as new. The scotch guard stuff wears off after a few years and I machine wash the covers now (have dogs and a child) and the whole thing looks good as new. Everyone always raves about how comfy it is too.
