I studied forensic science I still thought it was "blood splatter"

BeaucoupFish · 15/08/2021 22:55

@PuppyMonkey

There’s a lot about this on The Staircase on Netflix. I think about this programme often.
There’s is a really good two parter on dateline/sky crime as well Happy to report that the owl isn’t overlooked 🦉

Its one of those words or turns of phrase where yes, I know the correct one, but the 'wrong' version seems to make sense too. Like "you've got another thing coming".

NinaGonk · 15/08/2021 23:20

Ohhh well I never. Although "spatter analysis" sounds a bit more sophisticated than "splatter analysis" I suppose.

Dont tell me the right version is "think"?? I cant use that!
NewlyGranny · 15/08/2021 23:30

I always knew because we used to do spatter painting in Grade One. This involved thin poster paint, a toothbrush and a square of flywire to create fine spatter patterns on paper. I've never seen it done in the UK where flywire (flyscreen) is not a thing.

I wonder if spatter painting led to any little Aussies growing up to be forensic experts?

DieDeutschLehrerin · 15/08/2021 23:30

I think there is both. The podcast a pp was referring to is Mortem on the BBC by Carla Valentine. It's v.good - the one about the blood was a few episodes in I think.

It's the older version, and makes the most sense, but 'thing' has been so widely used for so long they're both widely accepted now.

sleepwouldbenice · 15/08/2021 23:44

@sliversurfer

I did not know this.
Also with you in the dunce corner OP🤣
XenoBitch · 15/08/2021 23:46

I worked in operating theatres and never came across this.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/08/2021 23:56

No,no,NO! Not both widely accepted Shock Think is correct,thing makes no sense at all.

It most definitely isn’t accepted now. Its just wrong. It means “think again”. That’s like saying it’s accepted to use brought instead of bought when you’re talking about shopping. Just because some people get it wrong doesn’t mean the wrong version is now right.
