His baby, his choice.

Not something I'd do but I can't get worked up about it.

randomchap · 15/08/2021 14:58

It's a daily mail article designed to annoy and outrage people. You are being very unreasonable to read such a trashy worthless rag and even more so to fall for it's obvious clickbait article.

So, a old-fashioned parent who insists gender must be linked to sex? Grin
But no one other than HCPs really need to know a prepubertal kid's sex and no reason to give a fig about their gender either.

Two BUs don't make a YANBU.

I don't know why all these Daily Mail readers keep sharing their nonsense on Mumsnet.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/08/2021 15:11

Hmm Daily Mail

NinaBallerinaShoes · 15/08/2021 15:13

Daily Fail nonsense.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 15/08/2021 15:21

There's an awful lot of parents inflicting their own neuroses onto their kids, it would seem. I'd rather teach a kid that being male or female is fine and not sone weird secret, and that it doesn't stop them from playing with the toys they like, dressing and acting how they like.

PropertyFlipper · 15/08/2021 15:23

I could care less whether it’s the Daily Mail or the Guardian frankly. And I’m certainly not worked up about it. Loving the usual retorts about clickbait. Crack on if it makes you feel better about yourself.

It saddens me that some people can't see the transphobic motivation behind these articles, and arguably, the people sharing them. Don't fall down that hate-filled hole OP.

Neron · 15/08/2021 15:24

I'd guess what sex they were, based on the names they've been given

thevelvetcurtain · 15/08/2021 15:40

I have no problem with this. I have quite a few friends who have done this and their kids are well adjusted with a good understanding of gender, including their own. All have settled on a gender by 3, with most at their 'birth' gender. But they have more empathy and understanding of a range of experiences, and I think that's brilliant. They're not taught to ignore gender - quite the opposite!

Also, I'm not clicking on a Daily Mail link.

How dare you suggest such a thing.

Itwontstopraining · 15/08/2021 15:49

Oh I'm loving the faux outrage @Propertyflipper.
Are you secretly a daily fail journalist? You seem a natural for it!

What do you mean by gender? Seriously. I have no idea what that means.

I do know what sex means. Male or female. XY or XX in every cell of their body. Sex tells you even before the baby is born how long it's likely to live, how tall it's likely to be and how much money it's likely to make during its lifetime. If female, the baby is likely to earn less and have a lower pension. And on and on and on, because sex dictates a surprising number of things, including the effectiveness of seat belts and medication.

But I have absolutely no idea what you mean by gender. Love of the colour pink? A preference for bikes over dolls? Football rather than hoovering? High heels rather than trainers? I genuinely don't know.

WhoWants2Know · 15/08/2021 16:01

Who is meant to give a shit about whether some stranger's child is secretly male or female? It's just attention seeking nonsense.

thevelvetcurtain · 15/08/2021 16:02

@kumquat365 I don't know either. I know I'm a woman. I'm not sure how to explain the how or why, but I know it's how I feel comfortable being, and moving in the world as one. I'm a butch lesbian so not going by stereotypes - but I feel confident in my womanhood.

Areyouseriousrightnow · 15/08/2021 16:10

Regardless of ‘gender identity’ are these children being taught about their biological sex and the biological difference between males and females? For the various obvious and important reasons. That is the concerning aspect.

kumquat365 · 15/08/2021 16:19

So you're saying this stuff about gender and yet you don't understand it? So how you do you know your friends' 3-year-olds know? What is it that a 3-year-old thinks they know? One of my nephews was absolutely certain he was a dog called Morris at that age. Turns out he's not a dog after all.

Wtf does a kid (or anyone else) need a gender for though?

Ignoring it as far as possible, and forcibly rejecting when needbe ('girls can't... boys should... Hmm' and just let them their own unique, multifaceted person.
