To wonder when PT will stop hurting??

I am having weekly personal training sessions with a brilliant lady. Just the one hour a week has made a huge difference to my shape and strength, people comment, I feel great. But.

For 2-3 days after eVh session I'm in agony! Everything hurts, I can barely move without pain. I have two young kids (main reason I want to get strong) so doing nothing not an option. Makes me v moany for half the week basically!

Is this normal? What can I do to prevent it? We do warm down after each session do it's not that!

Maybe try a soak in a hot bath after the pt session.

It sounds like it’s ‘just’ DOMS, but google rhabdomyolysis if you notice dark coloured urine or nausea.

Thank you all for the advice! I will add in something else. Maybe a Jillian Michaels workout, I used to think they were hard before the PT got her hands on me - now I think I'll find them easy by comparison, even on a sore day! Can't do her written programme though simply because unless someone's shouting at me, even via a dvd, I won't do it! 😆

Thanks @roundtable - I can only do it because my PT is amazing, she's got three kids herself so doesn't mind me bringing baby with me to session, if she's kicking off PT will pick her up and give her a cuddle while I keep training. She's an actual angel and an inspiration really!

She sounds fab but you're making it happen.

I've just remembered that when I could only fit in 2 sessions a week I found immediately walking the dog or the children(!) had a massive effect. It works as a cool down and a stretch.

Hi op speak to your trainer about this. A good option is a protein shake immediately after the workout I always find I am much less sore and recover quicker when I have a protein shake after as it helps the muscles repair faster.

Hankunamatata · 14/08/2021 22:30

You need to do something gentle the day after then mini workout day after that. You wont feel so sore

Theawkwardblonde · 14/08/2021 22:55

Good old DOMS. Up water intake and stretch properly after working out. Speak with your PT about any recovery shakes that they recommend. When I'm training properly (weights/CrossFit, although pregnant so currently so not doing much) I find upping protein intake with a recovery shake after a workout takes the edge off the DOMS. You're body will get used to the workouts and you will ache less as time goes on 👍🏻

It will get better but if you are getting stronger you will sometimes get some stiffness and pain (good pain as I call it!). A short run the morning after help (again, good pain).

Personally I love that feeling, it’s how I know I’ve been working. Epsom salts in a bath does help though

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 15/08/2021 16:13

Come to think of it I agree with the protein shake idea. I often have one on the way home after a workout and I do believe it helps and it tastes nice. Also stops me 'rewarding myself' with biscuits
