I was just looking for something on Amazon and my jaw fell open.

Ladies! Prepare to fill a hole in your life!

I already get annoyed that shaving products for women cost more than the male equivalent - but with toiletries I understand there's a market because a lot of women prefer using products with a feminine fragrance (and vice versa - I've had a couple of bottles of shower gel gifted to me by male friends who didn't sniff them before buying!)

But this just takes the fucking biscuit.

First review is hilarious. I'm almost tempted to buy it just so I can leave one!

Tools for girls!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 May 2021

Finally a tool kit I can use. I’ve always struggled with more manly blue pliers but as soon as I picked up a pink pair I felt right at home. The downside is there is no hammer so I will still need a man to do hammering jobs for me.

This? Or did I miss the funny one?

No. Just think you missed the irony.
CSIblonde · 14/08/2021 20:12

Funny!! I worked in Marketing for a v well known company that markets most of what goes in your shopping trolley . If you package it (or make it) in pink, sales go thru the roof.

Staffy1 · 14/08/2021 20:36

I don’t think you have to buy one to leave a review on Amazon.

happydays2345 · 14/08/2021 20:37

Hilarious is a bit of a stretch

WeatherwaxLives · 14/08/2021 20:41

I bought DM a set very similar.

DF is a builder, DM kept buying tools to have around the house, DF kept taking them to work.

The pink ones were obviously hers and didn't go walkabout.

DP is a builder, and I have a screwdriver and Stanley knife with flowers on for the same reason.

I know it's sexist but I kind of want a set now as I know it would stay intact because my husband probably wouldn't touch it, fearful that his balls would drop off if he did. Grin
Doesn't work. Most of 'my' tools ended up in DH's possession because they're 'easier to find' (i.e. not in his pigsty of a toolshed 😂) I keep the new ones locked in the boot of my car now 😉

What irony? There's naff all there, it's a marketing executives idea of something that the 'womenz' will like. Most of the 'hysterical' reviews are marketing....

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 14/08/2021 21:34

Interesting responses! I will not buy stuff that has been needlessly "feminized" on principle (and largely because its always priced higher than the "masculine" equivalent.)

Ironically pink is my favourite colour, but I'm not going to pay double just for that.

My dad (who was otherwise an absolute twat badger) brought me up using tools, doing DIY, using the quite hefty equipment in his workshop. He taught me how to wire a plug aged 6 and how to lay bricks age 7. So perhaps my response to this is triggered from childhood memories.

I was given a new laptop last week, 17 inches, so irritatingly too long for my existing laptop bags.
Searching amazon for a suitable backpack, loads of them are described as "Backpacks for Men" - WTF - what makes a backpack male or female? I'm supposed to have a dainty ladeez bag that's too small for the laptop - and preferably in pink?
V tempted to post in the Q&A to ask what makes a bag suitable for men only - just a misogynistic seller?

JudgeJ · 14/08/2021 22:14

@SecondCityShark

I actually own a very similar set Grin

And I am not ashamed.

I've had one for years since teaching days, not bright pink though, and find it so useful, along with a ratchet set.
JudgeJ · 14/08/2021 22:22

@TheSunIsStillShining

I'm more annoyed with these type of things than be able to laugh at them. These are cheap, throw away tools that will last a few months if someone actually tries to use them. What's the point of manufacturing waste??? pink or not.... We have a middle sized toolbox full of stanley and dewalt brands that we accumulated over 25 years and even the oldest screwdriver is in perfect form.
I can't speak about this product particuarly but I have a similar set that I must have bought for about £2 over twenty years ago, the number of compasses I've tightened up! It goes where the massive De Walt and Stihl stuff won't go and serves an entirely different purpose.

@penguinwithasuitcase

Reminds me of this product (and the reviews)

I think Ellen did a whole skit on this when it happened...

There were pages of those brilliant reviews for Veet for Men - and yes, that was one of the best. I was devastated when they disappeared from the site. How did you get hold of that one? (hopes the rest are still somewhere out there!)
justasking111 · 14/08/2021 23:26

Found a pink tool set years ago. It's mine no-one can borrow and forget to return them. It stays in the hallway desk. I also have a set of tiny screwdriver s. In a pouch. So useful for the little jobs

I have this set from Ikea and the little electric screwdriver and I keep them both in the kitchen cupboard where all the mixers and slow cooker etc lives. Excellent quality, affordable and orange not pink so no gender related hand wringing required.

DP also has a huge man cave garage with more tools than Tool Station but I CBA searching for the one I need, and if it's a bigger job than my little tool set can manage, he can do it anyway - I don't care if that sounds sexist, I'm the brains of the operation and he works in construction, so we play to our strengths.

MIL was so impressed when she saw I had my own tools that she went out and bought her own and some for her DM because all then men in that side of the family are the same. A lifetime's collection of tools but 'organised' in a way that only they know where to find anything.

NotImpossible · 15/08/2021 09:06

I have a similar set and it's great. It's surprising how often I've needed the teeny tiny screwdriver.

Well men and women often have differently proportioned bodies/legs and women are smaller in general. Many rucksack type bags that fit men will be too wide and too long for many women, especially shorter ones.

The point a PP made about whether these 'ladies tools' are actually designed for women, with smaller grips etc, rather than just making them pink is a good one. I struggle to operate our lawnmower because my hands are quite small, despite me being 5'7, and you have to keep a lever squeezed against a handle for it to keep running and my hands are too small to do it comfortably.
