To ask if your engagement and wedding rings are the same metals/colour?

Would you mix metals? I have a platinum engagement ring but I do also love gold. Not sure whether to stick to a similar colour and get a white gold/platinum wedding band or go for the yellow gold. Has anyone got photos of this working together? Or alternatively, do you wear them on separate hands if yours don’t match?

My wedding & engagement rings were made for us by a renowned jeweller & they are a mix of 24 carat natural white & 24 carat yellow gold. Both are set woth diamonds. A soloitaire on the engagement ring & 4 square emerald cut diamonds sunken into the wedding band

They look fabulous together & it means I can wear white gold/ yellow gold on my right hand / necklaces etc..

My husband has a matching white gold wedding ring also made by the jeweller.

I 100% wanted the mix & personally don't like the stainless steel effect of platinum. Pure uncoated white gold has the most gorgeous soft sheen. I adore it & my rings are now almost 20 years old & look as good as new

I like rose gold but don't own any. I don't wear silver either, though I did when I was younger.

Platinum will wear down the gold as pp have said.

freeandfierce · 14/08/2021 13:29

Yes exactly this, was told by jeweller to stick to matching metals for this reason.

Engagement ring is inherited - gold band.

Wedding ring is white gold with bands of yellow gold. I also have a modern white gold engagement ring from dp so I can mix and match them

Thanks everyone, will definitely have a think about the risks of mixing platinum with gold, I didn’t know that!

We didn’t have much money when we got married so my wedding band is white gold and I had an a second hand white gold engagement ring (really a dress ring). DH upgraded it to a diamond and platinum one years later-a complete surprise so it was very special❤️. I think the white gold/platinum combination looks fine.

I designed my own wedding ring to be a ring of yellow gold with a crossed over edge of white gold. The two colours look fine together. However, as others have sad, the platinum will wear the gold away. You could have a dual metal ring with platinum on the outside though.

I literally asked this last week when I got my 18ct gold eternity ring (antique yellow gold)

It's next to my platinum wedding ring

Which is next to an 18ct white gold engagement ring

ALL different metals

Jewellers response : "what do you care, you'll be dead" Grin

He said it would literally take a hundred years for anything to happen

I've been wearing the platinum wedding ring next to the 18ct white gold ring for 19 years - no wear at all

FelicityPike · 14/08/2021 19:07

My 3 rings are platinum. My engagement and eternity rings match each other but aren’t a set as such.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 14/08/2021 19:10

Mine are both white gold. I haven't had any problems with scratches or anything but the white has faded and is looking more yellow.

It looks like the Queen wasn't worried about mixing metals...
