Cat faeces - can I ask owner to come and clear it up?

There is a new black and white cat in our neighbourhood, I've seen it in our garden once our twice.
We went away for a week and I've come back to find piles of cat shit in the space between our car and bins, covered in flies. Obviously cat has found a nice quiet spot to do his business.
We have a neighbour Facebook page, so I can probably find out who the cat belongs to. WIBU to request that they come and clean up the crap? And is there a way to prevent it happening? Luckily it driveway is a little away from the house so at least its not right by my front door.

ALL CATS BURY THEIR SHIT.
IF IT IS NOT BURIED THEN A DOG OR A FOX DID IT.

Lampan · 14/08/2021 13:24

OP you have my sympathies. It’s utterly disgusting.
I have tried almost everything but the local cats love to shit on my lawn. I have seen them do it, it’s not foxes. To the PP who said it goes hard quickly, unfortunately the mucusy cat shit on my lawn doesn’t ever seem to dry out. I think the cat who does it must be ill but don’t know who owns it.
The ultrasonic detector doesn’t work at all. Only thing I have found that makes a difference is a spiky rubber mat in the gap in the hedge that they come through. Not 100% effective but better than nothing.

Anyone who knows anything about cats knows they do not.

Foxes according to half an MN 😂

Not all cats bury their poo - we get it on our side and front grass, annoys the hell out of me, as a very conscientious dog owner. The regurgitated mice and sick are even worse (that's always on the road beside the grass). I just use poo bags and swill the road. My dog has been dead for some months now, but thankfully they still stay out of actual garden.

This is hilarious. It’s so much more believable now you’ve capitalised it. Perhaps if you say it multiple times as well that’ll definitely convince us all…

They don't. They sometimes kick their back legs in the vague direction of the poo.

My cat has an outdoor litter tray. Sometimes she helpfully leaves it sitting on top, sometimes I have to dig around for it.

NOT ALL CATS BURY THEIR SHIT

Webbedlife · 14/08/2021 14:22

Fox shit is eye-wateringly bad smelling, even worse than dog or cat, so once you realise what it is you will know it forever. I've seen offlead dogs shitting on front gardens while their owners ignore it so I wouldn't rule out that possibility either.

Those are cats, but the joke is very funny.
BadMotherLover · 14/08/2021 14:28

If you have a cat that does not bury their shit, then I am sorry to tell you, but you own a dog. (Maybe evena pet fox).

Thedayohthedayohtheday · 14/08/2021 14:44

Clean it up then wash with a strong solution of fabric conditioner.

Thedayohthedayohtheday · 14/08/2021 14:45

Wash the area, not yourself!

saraclara · 14/08/2021 14:46

Heh. I had two cats. One who buried her poo, and a young one who didn't. When the young one pooed and walked away, the oldest one would glare at him, then go and cover it up herself!
Eventually he got the message.

I used to believe that cats wouldn't poo on a hard surface or gravel. But my neighbour's cat has proved me wrong as I've watched him do it on my gravel path several times, and have to pick it up regularly. Easy enough with a trowel, given it's gravel. I just lob it under a large shrub nearby.

NO THEY DON’T.
Eustaciavile · 14/08/2021 14:51

When we live surrounded by others as most of us do (other than those on desert islands🤣), we have to accept some degree of irritation from others. We also should acknowledge that undoubtedly we cause our own share of irritation too.

Cat poo is just one such irritation amongst so many.

Many things poo in gardens, my own included. My own cats, visiting cats, foxes, hedgehogs, birds especially wood pigeons (my swing=their toilet), rats, moles and squirrels.
If you live very rurally, add rabbits, badgers and deer.

Posted too soon!!
Just be as considerate at possible yourself and accept a degree of irritation from others

Why are you continuing to argue that ALL cats bury their poo?! I've had eight cats and known dozens more. Some bury their poo, some don't. Other posters have said the same, why are you so insistent that ALL cats bury their poo?! Confused
aiwblam · 14/08/2021 15:03

I’ve seen a cat happily shit on my grass without burying it. Cats don’t always bury it at all. Cat shit is a total pain. Cats shit in the bushes/foliage at my mums neighbour. Every time it rains, the smell of catshit is just vile.

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 14/08/2021 15:05

You’re unreasonable, do you seriously think anyone is going to respond and come and collect cat poop?

SueSaid · 14/08/2021 15:06

As everyone else has said sadly there's nothing you can do, but cat owners if you let your cat wander about crapping in people's gardens then you are lazy and minging. Get a litter tray and train it fgs.

I often wonder what hapless cat owners would do if I popped our dogs round their back gardens to do a big smelly plop 🙄.

gogohm · 14/08/2021 15:32

More likely to be foxes but to those who say cats bury it, not all, the lazy fluffball here prefers the carpet next to the litter box Angry. The cat flap is obsolete
