Cancer from 20 years ago doubling our insurance quote

Found out I was pregnant 8 weeks ago and decided then to apply for life insurance equivalent to our mortgage in case something happens and we have a baby and a mortgage to pay.

My DH had cancer as a child nearly 20 years ago...cured with radiation at the time told by doctor's he's no more likely to have cancer again than anyone else. He has a couple of health issues due to the damage but none life threatening and all well controlled with medication.

It has taken two months for the insurance company to come back with our "final" quote after back and forth with DH's GP and it's more than doubled (we were honest on the initial quote and put down everything he has). it's now close to £1k a year for the insurance.

Feeling a bit depressed. AIBU to think that a cancer that's been in remission for 20 years shouldn't impact the quote that much. I expected some increase but not over double :(

I suggest you try other insurers. Quotes can vary quite a bit company to company.

Try other insurers. If you’re just after a lump sum on accidental death then MetLife are good as no underwriting and will also pay out for hospital stays and limb breakages. They do a partially underwriter mortgage specific product too. For yourself I’d look at guardian with child cover. You doing have to have joint policies. You just need to stipulate where the funds go. To.

Try different insurers. Macmillan have a good guide, and there are lots of insurers who specialise in insurance for people who have/have had cancer.

It may be that you can get a much cheaper quote that excludes his particular cancer - eg my ex had a history of depression; the company we went with excluded potential claims resulting from depression.

Shop around op. Even £500 a year is a lot - how much insurance are you looking to cover?

I have to pay more than my DH because I had cancer 11 years ago. It's frustrating because I'm really fit and healthy. I shopped around a lot and found better deals, but I still need to pay more!

LifeSearch are really good
I’ve taken mine out with them just in case as I have 3dc and im a single parent .
If there is a gp report that’s needed for a quote because of health issues / previous that’s what hold the insurers up unfortunately as the gps take at least 8+weeks to get back to them

That's a disgusting amount. I would shop around @Bells3032
