That they would question why a woman in her mid thirties had both ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis. To me it is not rare surely?

I have RA. People seem to have no idea that is completely different to oestoarthrits and is an autoimmune disease. I wouldn't find it odd that someone has both as autoimmune diseases tend to go together.

It sounds unlucky (unusual) to have either or both at that young an age.
Risk of having almost every chronic diseases goes up with age, and is low in youth.

I get asked about my conditions all the time by doctors but mostly because they're rare
My consultant says he sees me and thinks zebras, not horses BlushGrin

I've known 2 children with arthritis, it can happen at any age.

I have psoriatic arthritis I’m 45 diagnosed at 44 ! My best friend had rheumatoid arthritis diagnosed at 23 ! Another girl I know has chrohns and arthritis! Most people with auto immune conditions have multiple problems because the immune system is over reacting x

A relative of mine.
She felt a colleague was interrogating her earlier on and that she seemed disbelieving of it all. I said it's probably because she hides the pain well. You wouldn't know she had it just by looking at her but she is in pain everyday and struggles with a lot.
To be honest, I was surprised when she was diagnosed with RA on top of UC as felt she seemed on the young side but now I am more educated, I know better. I think a lot of it comes down to lack of knowledge with most people.
For someone who said they didn't know what ulcerative colitis is, it's similar to crohns but affects just the large intestine.

I've had RA for a few years now and have had loads of people say "but you aren't that old.".

I've given up trying to explain RA has zilch to do with age and everything to do with an annoying immune system.
