AIBU to call the police about this?

So, I live in a lovely, friendly neighbourhood but there’s always one whose a twat isn’t there? A friend and I were preparing to cross the road (very quiet, cul de sac) when our neighbourhood twat came out of his house and got into his car. I had my year old retriever on the lead and my friend was shepherding my 15 year retriever across the road. Twat saw us, but regardless, started backing his car stopping us and my friend had to grab my old dog to stop her from being run over! I yelled at him and may have actually called him a twat, but he ignored us and drove away.

Been getting increasingly angry at how he was…he could easily have mown my poor dog down or even us. Do I notify the police or is keying his car tonight a reasonable thing to do? Obviously the last sentence is tongue in cheek but I really feel like doing it

Why didn’t you stop? You obviously seen him.

CremeEggThief · 10/08/2021 18:57

I think you were right to call him a twat, particularly if you pre-fixed it with "fucking" and yelled it out loud, but I do think that will have to be your revenge. Sorry, OP!

Can't believe people think it isn't illegal to drive at someone crossing the road!

This would be, at the least, driving without consideration for other road users (RTA 1988, Section 3). However, I can't see police doing anything about this now given one off, no harm caused, no officer witnessing, etc. And, by the sounds of it, no evidence other than your own witness statements.

I think it would be OTT to contact the police about it. If it's happened before or is part of a wider course of action then it might be worth talking to a local neighbourhood officer about it.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but I'd have put myself between the dog and the car and let him almost clip me, then dive like a footballer and get my friend to pretend to call 999, while photographing his number plate.
