Have had bleeding after bowel movements when wiping (not a huge amount and intermittent) for about 6 months. Assumed I had a small tear which resolved and kept coming back so didn't do anything about it as it self resolved

Last week I developed pain, itching, more bleeding and orange jelly like mucous (sorry for tmi), and a smooth pink lump (although looks like it could have a slightly ulcerated centre?) on my anus

Called GP and had phone consultation- he prescribed Scheriproct ointment and suppositories. The ointment has helped a bit, but still not 100% better (been using it 4 days).

I cannot physically get the suppositories in- it is so painful Sad

I'm 30 and have no history of constipation, straining etc, eat plenty of fibre and am otherwise fit and healthy and not overweight- so no risk factors for haemarrhoids.

I have HPV (positive on smear in January) so trying not to stress about cancer .....

Anyone got experience of anything similar? How long for (small?) haemarrhoids to resolve?

It sounds like piles. Did you smear some of the ointment on the suppositories before use? That will help.

Outfoxedbyrabbits · 09/08/2021 14:42

If it's not fully resolved following the treatment prescribed by the GP then you need to get back in touch with them. Explain that you haven't been able to take the suppositories as it's too painful. That may give them some extra info (they clearly weren't expecting you to be in that much pain or they wouldn't have prescribed that). Good luck!

I had very similar symptoms to you and was diagnosed with piles at 17. However, after three days it was even worse, I couldn't sit, stand or lay down without being in agony. Turns out I had a peri-anal abscess.

I would request an in-person appointment and examination. You'll then either need strong antibiotics or surgery to lance it (if it is an abscess, of course).

What colour is the blood?
You should have been referred to a colorectal specialist

cheesecrackerz · 09/08/2021 15:49

@Outfoxedbyrabbits I wasn't expecting to be in that much pain either! I've never used suppositories before so maybe I'm just terrible at it. It was really sharp burning pain though

@MauveMagnolia it's bright red fresh blood

He said if not resolved with the treatment I can go in to be examined

Just don't want to waste anyone's time if it's 'just' piles. And it doesn't look anything like the pictures on Google!! They look much much worse

Just go in for a "face to face" (Grin sorry) appointment, OP. No one is going to think you're wasting their time, you have a bleeding bum Flowers

Pesimistic · 09/08/2021 16:23

Do try an use the suppositories, it is a scary thought trying to put them in first if you haven't used them before but just relax and push it up, it will hurt less if your not tensing up

Hi OP

Years ago I started having blood and mucus in my stools. I was referred to the hospital for tests and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, which is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. It’s basically where part of your colon gets ulcerated and inflamed (it’s believed to be an auto immune disease).

The type of colitis I have is Proctitis. Basically, I get inflammation in the rectum, the very lower part of the colon. I get flare ups every few years and have medication for it.

There’s a possibility it could be this. I’m no Dr so obviously not in any position to diagnose, but just wanted to put another option out there, that may stop you worrying a little about it being something more serious.

But you do need to see a Dr to get tests done. So please make sure you go and get checked out.

@Outfoxedbyrabbits Grin face to face, cheek to cheek. I always worry about coming across as a hypochondriac so reluctant to waste time!

@Pesimistic I'll give it another go in some other positions. I never put ANYTHING up by bum so it is a very strange experience Blush

@browneyes77 thanks, I've not had any changes in bowel habits so think it's unlikely to be a type of IBD. If anything changes will definitely consider it

@cheesecrackerz I didn’t have any changes in bowel habits when I was diagnosed. Just the bleeding and mucus.

Hopefully you’ll get it sorted soon! But I would push to get checked out by a specialist. I’m surprised your GP hasn’t referred you already to be honest? Any blood from the backside is usually made a priority and gets checked out thoroughly. A phone consultation isn’t really good enough IMO.

Hope you get it sorted and aren’t uncomfortable for too much longer! Flowers
