To ask you to talk me down from saying something to this rude woman!

I sometimes come to a café near my house for a coffee and cake with DS. He is only 6 months old.

We have to wait to be seated by staff and there was a lady behind me complaining really loudly about staff taking too long to seat us (they were rushing round dealing with customers and we weren't waiting more than a few minutes!).

Then when they said please.come in and take a seat she pushed past me (literally brushed my pram to get past me) and said to her friend 'we need to sit as far away from that baby as possible', loudly enough that she must have known I'd hear.

DS literally wasn't even doing anything, he wasn't crying or anything and he's now asleep whilst I'm having a cake and drink and I can see her keep looking up and over at us.

It's really bugged me, I wish I'd done the typical MN 'did you mean to be so rude?' 🤣

WHY are people so rude?! I don't get it.

I don’t think she queue jumped OP… I think she pushed past OP’s pram when OP was already seated? It wasn’t very clear in your OP though OP!

Yes she was being a knob. Personally I wouldn’t have said anything though incase the baby did wake up and make a fuss… then you would have looked a bit silly.

Bortles · 09/08/2021 14:51

Smile and wave, OP, smile and wave!

MotionActivatedDog · 09/08/2021 14:53

I wouldn’t say anything, why would you? Some people are dicks, why let it take up space in your head? It’s her problem if she wants to be pissed off about babies.

Wantabub · 09/08/2021 14:54

I'd pay for the coffee and leave a note when she gets the bill saying
'You obviously need cheering up if you want to upset a new mum. Think about your actions in future its hurtful'

SpiderinaWingMirror · 09/08/2021 14:55

Oh. I'd have to take baby to see her if she keeps looking over!

JustAnotherFuckingMonday · 09/08/2021 14:57

Smile sweetly on your way out and say 'I do hope my baby didn't disturb you'
Can't bear rudeness, there is just no need! Hope you enjoyed your coffee & cake!

Notapheasantplucker · 09/08/2021 14:58

Wave at her with your middle finger on your way out! Cheeky bleeder.

Amima · 09/08/2021 14:59

Maybe she’s just having a really bad day. I remember when I was ill and exhausted from looking after a baby with no sleep - I sat down in a cafe and a woman tried to move me so I told her to fuck off and pushed her bag off the table. Not proud of it and I’m not like that at all, but I was just so tired.

Geamhradh · 09/08/2021 15:01

Interesting how the OP makes no mention of the woman's age but the usual ageist crap starts being spouted immediately.

onedayiwillmissthis · 09/08/2021 15:05

@AmyDudley

Thank you. You just clearly articulated exactly what I was thinking.

Bloodypunkrockers · 09/08/2021 15:12

@itsgettingwierd

Interestingly someone I know has just written a post if FB about how she had her first swim at leisure centre under new band system and was annoyed at having her session wasted whilst she waited behind others who was aggressively complaining about the session time and bands.

It's the Over 60's session.

She said it's always that group complaining about youth but they never think they should behave nicely!

How is that either interesting or relevant

Or are you piling on with the old=bad crap?

Wow - I've been on MN for years and years under various names and I've had my first deleted message on this thread. I've no idea why?! But I do hope you enjoyed your cake OP despite the rudeness from her, some people are just miserable! 🙄🤗

AmyDudley · 09/08/2021 15:19

I’d say to staff “I really want to sit far away from the miserable old bitch” and smile

Words almost fail me. OP did not say the woman was old. As has been pointed out several times.

Changechangychange · 09/08/2021 15:24

Would you want to sit next to a miserable bitch like her? No? Win-win then.

Everyone who heard her now knows she’s an unpleasant woman. Just smile to yourself and enjoy being happy with your baby, while Mrs Grumpy goes through her life under a thundercloud.

I reported you for gratuitous ageism. The OP didn't mention the woman's age.
SenecaFallsRedux · 09/08/2021 15:28

Once again ageism rears its ugly head on MN. Sad, but not unexpected.

HQ are thankfully pretty quick on deleting the ageism.

@ladycarlotta

children I can tolerate in cafes - Bavaria, no. Hard limit.
Hell of a lot of cakes come from Bavaria. Guess you’re just one of those people who likes their coffee on its own……
FOJN · 09/08/2021 15:54

She was incredibly rude, imagine her poor friend having to sit through coffee with her. I agree with mbosnz, it must be hard having a head so full of angry thoughts. It was definitely her not you. I do hope the cake was good.

There's plenty of casual misogyny in addition to the ageism on this thread. Some posters sound as bad as the woman in the coffee shop.

Sorry it wasn't clear... So we were queuing to be seated. I was in front of her and when the staff moved the bollard thing stopping people from just walking in, so that we could go and sit down, she pushed past me to get in front of me when going in. I wasn't already sat down at that point.

Thinking about it I should have just gone and sat at the table next to her 😂

I did enjoy my cake and coffee in the end thank you, she didn't stay long thankfully and baby had a good nap whilst I read my book so all was well.
