Next doors Airnib

Next door neighbors have converted an outhouse into an Airnib rental which borders directly onto both my garden and three neighbors. Other than living next to what feels like a public car park with patrons arriving all hours it's not something I stress over. Yesterday the car park was decked out with marquees, chairs, flags and a sound system. Live music followed. If it were a neighbor having a private party I'd silently grumble and let it pass. However, AIBU to feel this is a step too far? Any suggestions on how to nip this in the bud without confrontation? Asking for two fellow neighbours too!

I’d be complaining to the council.

Was it a guest having a party? I don't quite understand. If so I would ask your neighbour to put a clause in their ads that no parties are allowed

Well, not really. You either need to have a calm, open, conversation with your neighbours, or complain about them behind their backs to the council (which may go unnoticed, may take months, may never get resolved).

Just talk to your neighbours!

Owners laid on party/function for their Airnib punters and crowd.

Do you mean airbnb? I don't understand why they would have loads of people over, usually you rent the airbnb for however many people and stay in it, not hire gazebos and a sound system and have a huge party - especially if the owners live on the same site.
Are you sure it's related to the airbnb and not just the owners having a shindig? If this is the first time it may be just a one off so I would be annoyed but leave it. If this happens regularly, go and speak to them.

My neighbours have moved into another house permanently and instead of renting next door out (or selling it Angry) just have it permanently on Air BnB. It's a giant pain in the arse but we haven't had driveway parties yet, that's ridiculous! Sympathies!

MyOtherProfile · 09/08/2021 08:41

What @HungryHippo11 said. I even googled Airnib in case it was a thing because I couldn't work out having lots of guests over at once if it was air BnB. Unless it's like an HMO now?

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 09/08/2021 08:41

I’d expect your neighbour to inform you all that they’re having a outdoor party, that’s just good manners. In terms of the Airbnb, not sure you can do much about cars arriving - you don’t mention that it’s disturbing you in terms of general noise and as long as they’ve followed planning rules to create it, probably not much you can do other than seek to maintain a good relationship with your neighbour and raise any specific issues as they arise.

Suzi888 · 09/08/2021 08:50

I’m sure air bnb rules are strict on number of people allowed to stay- this just sounds like a party. Was it a one off?

DinosaurDiana · 09/08/2021 08:54

Contact the council noise people.
Any noise between 11-7am I’d be ringing the police for advice.
And maybe check if they’re declaring the income to the tax office ?

I'm not sure that this is really anything to do with the fact its an air BnB. It should more like your neighbours were having a party, and invited some of the guests to stay over.

Annoying, but the Air BnB element seems irrelevant to the issue.
