To want to do a handstand (aged 50)

I've been steadily losing weight, and enjoying the feeling of clothes being looser.

Exercising more, lots of walking, some swimming and some Pilates.

I really, really want to see if I can still do a handstand against a wall, like I used to do as a teenager. Is this bonkers?

Yes, wait for a spotter.
Try a teddy bear handstand first. That should limber you up.

One of the hardest parts is the strain on your wrists so limber and stretch them first.
I sometimes put my hands down in a sideways fist shape if my wrists are feeling a little week feels much easier

Also walking back up the wall (stand back to the wall move out put your hands on the floor then slowly walk your feet up ) is a good way to test your arm strength

Still doing hand stands and cartwheels at 51
Have bet myself I will still do them at 60

In every other aspect of exercise I seem to have very little arm or upper body strength

Go for it

I do weekly Iyengar yoga and am blown away by the ability of some of the older people in my class. Late seventies and doing handstands, forearm balances and 5 minute headstands. Go carefully, have a spotter with you . Good luck
