Dd, 3, will start nursery/pre school in September, couple of mornings per week, building up to two full days.
I’ll be staying at home until she’s in school the following September, I’ve worked all my life, before being off with her.
I’m sad for this moment, but need to turn it into something positive, I’m also a bit excited to finally have some time alone.
I’ve not read a book since she was a newborn and slept a lot during the day (used to be an avid reader) I’ve not worked out since before I was pregnant, I’ve not got up early to take my dog for a walk, just her and I, the way I used to. I haven’t sat on a sun lounger on the beach alone (live abroad) since I was pregnant. These are some of the things on my list! What did any of you do if you were in this position? What else can I do to make the most of this fairly short period of time before I’m back in work etc?

Ooooft definitely beach and read!!!! If I had the option that's what I'd do!

When DD starts nursery next month I'll have the odd hour or so to myself, I've told myself I'm going to schedule reading in, or a yoga class!

@GalaxyGirl24 Yes, yoga lessons! Def on the list too. I can’t believe how excited I am just to sit and read a book..in a silent house. I’ve not been really, truly alone for 3 years, it’s bizarre

I've been doing this this year apart from (too many) periods of self-isolation and school closures. I promise you the mornings go sooo quickly !!!

Yes to reading, yes to beach ! Things I was determined to do was to sort out all the photos since my girls were born (didn't do), do yoga (didn't do), find out what I want to do when I go back to work (didn't do) and do lots of DIY stuff at home (did do). I also did just sit in silence, read, drink coffee, get bored. So lovely.

Only thing I regret is spending too much time on Mumsnet...

@Wineless Yes, I def don’t want to waste the time, but I fear that may happen 🤣did it feel amazing or did you get bored? I just can’t imagine it.

Spend first couple of weeks slobbing on the sofa, binging on netflix and enjoying peace

Wineless · 08/08/2021 23:43

It was magical. Even being a bit bored was great ! There was a lot of guilt ("I should be doing something productive now") but looking back that was just stupid. Same as you I had been home with my youngest for over 3 years and just hadn't had time for myself at all.
Seriously time's going to fly.

Thecricketsareout · 08/08/2021 23:53

@Wineless I’m a combination of very excited but so sad too 😬

@Hankunamatata So up for that. Fancy buying just some easy, crap food and sitting alone (aside from dog) under a big throw on the sofa and not moving for a good few hours 😅

Honestly that would be my time for retraining to return to the workplace.
