To wanted to have flattened this delightful girl with one of the Hondas in her garage?

Spent yesterday car hunting... Went into Honda garage and greeted by recepionist (she was early 20's with giant budgie hoop glod earring and a bench jacket). She seemed very friendly (smilie). Conservations went as followed

Receptionist: (audible gasp)'your not going to have that baby now are you?'.

Me: I hope not I am only 35 weeks

Receptionist Really Oh my god! Are you have twins or summat?

Me: (audible sigh) No, I am not and for what is is worth I am measuring perfectly for dates. (well i was a week ago)

Receptionist: Wow, I have never in my life seen a bump that size

Me: Really? Well seems fine to me.

Receptionsist: (attempting to absolve herself) Well your not very tall are you? Maybe that is why you look so big

Me: So I am now short and fat, thanks.
(inwardly seething)

Receptionist: : Laughs

Me: So do you have any children? (thinking she cant have else she wouldnt be saying such stupid things)

Receptionist: Oh yes I have a 2 year old, but my bump was very neat and looked like a littl football (bitch)

Me: Oh thats nice

Receptionist: Do you have any others?

Me: Yes a seven year old boy.

Receptionist: Oh my god! 7 years old! Was this one planned?

Me: (indignantly) Of course! Not that you should ask someone anyway!

Receptionist: (babbles about how some are/arent)

Meanwhile my mum is sat their grinning her head off thinking it is all highly amusing.

I am wanting to tell the silly girl exactly where to get off but very aware of mothers presence and wanting to be polite.

Walk out of showroom.

Wish I had come up with witty answers, or asked her if she had planned hers or wether she just slept around.

Arrggh

My bump isnt that huge honest! Have uploaded pic so you can see.

ok... after all this i got the tape measure out last night and instead of measuring 35/36 am measuring about 40. My mum is coming over as car hunting again and also to see how I am (having pains, upset tummy, etc )

When ten days late with ds I was asked by someone "Haven't you had the baby yet?". So I said "Yes I have, this is a cushion". It's the only time I've seen him lost for words but I did feel a bit mean.

Your bump is lovely and neat - I was a huge waddling elephant. When ds finally arrived, he was 9lb 9oz.

melontum · 29/11/2007 11:05

If the bump is only 40" at 35-36 weeks then hmc is right, you're pretty slim aside from bump. Just laugh at the poor ignorant girl with her silly Qs. Her time will come...

YABU- why should I be the only person in the world to get these stupid comments

Yesterday a woman accosted me in the local museum, an told me I 'looked ready to drop any second' I told her I hoped not as I'm not due til the end of January (my bump is not nice and neat). I then had to stand their smiling weakly as she talked about my bumps size, the fact that it had definately dropped and that maybe my dates were wrong as 'that baby will definately be here before Christmas'!

Seems like I get this every second day now.

Astrophe · 29/11/2007 11:07

oooooh, I seethe on your behalf. What a moron.(honda, not you)

I had a convo that went:

cow: when are you due?
me: in 11 weeks.
cow: oh, its twins then!?
me: no, just the one
cow: are you sure?
me: quite sure
cow: Well you must have your dates wrong - you couldn't be less than 38 weeks!

me: my dates are right

cow: we'll see!
me: ran screaming from the room - should have done that earlier

why are people so dumb?

OrmIrian · 29/11/2007 11:12

Harmless and trying to be friendly, but obviously a bit dim and armed with a big spade for digging conversational holes.

It's only temporary anyway but I do remember being hurt when people commented on how big my bump was - only 3rd time round. I looked like I had a bad case of wind with nos 1 & 2 until about 38 weeks. You feel so vulnerable when you are very pregnant.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 29/11/2007 11:25

People were too afraid to say anything to be because I was SO huge with DD2, I think they were embarrassed. Did you see pics of Isla Fisher before she had her baby? Well I was twice that size. Quite ridiculous- looking. (I am just under 5'2", and DD2 was 9lb6oz). My bump entered a room 6 seconds before I did.

lizziemun · 29/11/2007 12:48

Awen

Your bump looks like mine did (dd2 12wks today), even my sister said i didn't look pregnant from behind but my bump arrived 10mins before the rest of me.

I have to say i lost all my weight and more when having Lexie so i was in my pre pregnancy clothes within days.

Like GrumpyOldHorsewoman i'm 5ft 1in and Lexie was 9lb 2oz.

docincognito · 29/11/2007 13:07

I was described as looking like the worm that swallowed the Christmas turkey!

Your bump is big, but she shouldn't have been so rude!

MamaMaiasaura · 01/12/2007 14:10

I was/am measuring 41 weeks... so perhaps honda girl had a point

It looks like a big bump to me.

You're PREGNANT, you noodle!! It's not an insult to you that you have a large middle. There's a person living in there. It looks LOVELY.

I love to see a big bump! makes me broody.

joyfulspike · 01/12/2007 21:05

Lovely bump - that cow's brains are probably perched on her earrings! Am seething for you.

Your bump looks fine to me. But just about everyone's bump looks better than my large, spreading ones did. I had all the twins and are you nearly due etc comments.

walkinginaWILKIEwonderland · 01/12/2007 21:15

Your bump is fab!!! I miss my bump

The delightful receptionist said to me at work (I was 37 weeks pg) - god you've really put weight on your arse haven't you

lizziemun · 01/12/2007 21:56

walkinginaWILKIEwonderland

It called counterbalance .

beaniesteve · 02/12/2007 01:10

She was rude and thoughtless and tactless...but she was just trying to be friendly I am sure. Perhaps it was more her Bench Jacket and hooped earings which offended you and made you think she was the type to sleep around?

MamaMaiasaura · 16/09/2011 21:25

lol just re found my old pregnanvy threads and im 35 weeks again and huge bump. Everywhere i go people gasp and say youre not going to have that baby right now are you?
