Did your mortgage lender contact your employer?

FTB. No idea they'd request this. no issue of course but I haven't told my employer that I'm moving yet (I haven't told anyone for that matter). I thought that they only requested 3 months payslips. Broker said they probably won't even contact my employer but just wanted details for their record.

Did your lender contact your boss?

No. I just provided payslips.

ConfessionsOfAChocoholic · 04/08/2021 20:40

Our mortgage provider didn't. But I did use to work in a payroll office and saw requests come through from mortgage providers asking for salary details and employment dates. This was 8 years ago so might have changed.

gwenneh · 04/08/2021 20:43

Yes, ours did, to confirm the payslips.

moneymaker5 · 04/08/2021 20:46

@Stompythedinosaur @ConfessionsOfAChocoholic good to know! I'm not doing anything dodgy, I promise! But there were talks of redundancies a couple of months ago. We've heard nothing since, nothing set in stone yet any way. I've read online that lenders sometimes ask employers if the job is long term and I'm a tad concerned my boss might put his foot in it. I'm buying with my husband (no kids) so we'd have his salary to fall back on should anything happen, but I doubt I'd struggle to find another job any way. I'm sure everything will be fine.

I think the questions they ask relating to long term/permanent positions are pointless any way. We could complete on the house and I might lose my job the next day. I wish I had a crystal ball sometimes...

Mine did but only because I'd been issued a printing but hadn't started yet so payroll confirmed my higher salary amount and that gave us access to a big mortgage and better rates. That was with my permission though

Sparklesocks · 04/08/2021 20:52

No, I provided payslips (6 months rather than 3 though) and my last p60 and that was sufficient. I also had to provide bank statements to prove the income was paid into my account.

Promotion

moneymaker5 · 04/08/2021 20:57

@KingdomScrolls did they contact your employer early on in the process or later down the line?

moneymaker5 · 04/08/2021 20:57

@KingdomScrolls I'm glad it all worked out for you btw Smile

Not directly, they did ask me to get a letter from them confirming my salary and that I wasn't going to lose my job due to Covid though

gabsdot45 · 04/08/2021 22:36

I do payroll in my job and I fill out salary certs all the time. I've never been contacted after by a mortgage lender for any further details or to confirm that I'm a real person.

Smokeahontas · 04/08/2021 22:39

As a first time buyer, just over 11 years ago when the market was getting over the crash, I was asked. The hoops I had to jump through in general were ridiculous.

Not since then, though.

moneymaker5 · 04/08/2021 22:42

@gabsdot45 have you ever been asked if the job is long term? Or just the salary?

@moneymaker5 early on because they wanted that confirmed before making the offer of the bigger mortgage amount. We'd already had a lower amount agreed as mortgage in principle offered on a house, accepted then gazumped. Then I got offered the promotion a bit out of the blue, went back to our IFA and he said I think they'll increase what they'll offer, spoke to the lender they said yes but we'd need it confirmed from employer do we have permission to contact them, I said yes, gave them HRs details and pre-warned HR. They contacted by email, HR responded with an official letter confirming new salary, start date and that it was a permanent position. Lender sent us a new mortgage offer for a higher amount and with a better rate. I was so angry when we were gazumped but now I'm really pleased it happened, we got a bigger house in a nicer area!
