My mistake but unable to correct it

I ordered some items for my son last night online and after processing the order I realised they were going to be delivered to my old address. Completely my fault I know but aibu to think it's very frustrating to not be able to contact anybody to rectify the problem.

The website said phone lines are open between 9-7pm but when I phoned this morning it said phone lines were closed because of covid and staff working from home. I emailed via messenger and no reply and I also emailed them with no response until after the item had been dispatched.

I understand it's my fault but I couldn't contact anybody. The email said I could return any unworn items for a refund but I'm not going to be receiving the items. I can only hope that my old address will send them back. I can't go to my old address as it is not local.

You should get a link with the option for your items to be delivered to the nearest collection point. Select one, then get in contact with them, usually if it's not collected in 2 weeks it's sent back to whoever shipped it

@beigebrownblue

If you get charged for them, I'd do a chargeback from your credit card (assuming you've paid this way).

It does take a couple of months but worth doing. I've just had a refund from one company who said they had delivered and hadn't in fact at all.

I don't think you can expect to get your money back because you made a mistake can you?

If the seller sends the goods where you asked for them to go you'd have to lie to your bank to get your money back. I don't see how that would work.

Try contacting Hermes customer support and ask to re route it

Taliskerskye · 04/08/2021 12:54

If you get the previous owner to refuse it the. It will go to the nearest collection point and after a few weeks will be automatically returned

Do you have contact details for your old next door neighbour? You could ask them to speak to the people who now live in your old house and request that they reject the delivery.

I've found this too OP with a few companies on the last few months. I wanted to contact my local leisure centre yesterday to inquire about swimming lessons and was passed from pillar to post on their phone system listening to messages about covid. I never did manage to get through to a human or have my question answered. Covid is an excuse.

I had something similar happen to me with Zara, due to a fault in their system. Pre-pandemic, I’d get all packages delivered to work, but obviously, once COVID hit, I changed my default address to my home address. I placed an order witH Zara, and after a couple of days, received a text message to say my order was out for delivery, followed by another a few hours later to say it had been delivered. Went in to my account only to find my default address was not my home address, it had somehow reverted to my previous job address, which I’d left 3 years prior, and had definitely removed from my address book. Zara would not refund my order, even though I showed them proof of all of the orders that had been delivered to my house through the pandemic, and proof that I hadn’t been in the previous job for three years so wouldn’t have used that address.

Happened to me once for dh present.
I contacted new owners via FB messenger and they sent the parcel back to the company (I wanted to go and pick it up from the old house but I think the message was read too late).
The company would only refund if it was returned to them directly even though I realised quickly what I’d done.

Just to update. My parcel arrived today. Just by chance yesterday I saw our local Hermes delivery driver deliver a parcel to a neighbour so I went outside to explain to her what I'd done and she said she'd keep an eye out for it. I got tracking information for it to be delivered today so I had managed to change deliver address to a local parcel shop.

She saw this on her list and picked it up from the shop and delivered it to me. I'm so grateful. Also thank you to everyone for their advice.

Great news! I do get annoyed at all the constant Hermes driver bashing here, my local Hermes driver is lovely too.

We're lucky as we do have a good one. Luckily she knows me as delivers here a lotBlushand I always take my neighbours parcels in if they're out so I get to speak to her quite often and she must know my name from the parcels she delivers here. So thankful to her.
